Hurricane Beryl To Approach Texas! Hurricane Beryl made landfall along Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula as a Category 2 early this morning. Rapid weakening is expected as Beryl moves farther inland and crosses the Yucatán Peninsula today, but slow re-intensification is expected once Beryl moves back over the Gulf of Mexico. At this time meteorologists expect Beryl to make another landfall near the Texas and Mexico border Sunday evening into early Monday. ServiceMaster Restore is nearby and ready to assist now. 🌀 Hurricane Beryl is the second named storm in what is predicted to be a busy Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30. Beryl is the farthest east a hurricane has formed in June and one of only two to do so east of the Caribbean. Warm waters are fueling Beryl, with ocean heat content in the deep Atlantic the highest on record for this time of year and as at posting, forecasters warn of a life-threatening storm surge of up to 9 feet in areas where Beryl will make landfall. 🌊 This is a timely reminder of the need for climate justice to be prioritised, as the Caribbean nations have played very little role in bringing the climate crisis to this state. 🫠 We encourage all those in the path of the hurricane to take the suggested precautionary measures. 🙏🏽 #climatetrackercaribbean #climatejustice #hurricaneberyl

Hurricane Beryl, here is what you need to know: - The earliest in the year Category 4 hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean since 1851 - Rapidly intensified to a category 4 storm, reaching 130 mph winds and might go up as high as 145 mp - From Barbados, the hurricane is expected to sweep across the Westward Islands, Jamaica and then potentially to Mexico and might even reach in some scenarios Texas by next weekend - St. Lucia Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre announced a national shutdown. - Rising ocean temperatures are likely linked to climate change, which potentially fueled Beryl's acceleration. - Beryl emphasizes the importance of hurricane preparedness and strong infrastructure in vulnerable regions. We hope for the safety of the Islands and region impacted by Hurricane Beryl and storms and urge the residents to listen to local authorities guidelines and restrictions. Chief Climate Officer, Abt Global | Leveraging Public and Private Sector Impact for Climate, Health, Equity, and Inclusive Economic Growth
Hurricanes are not new, I sheltered through the devastating Hurricane David in 1979. However, climate change is warming the oceans leading to earlier, more frequent, and more intense storms, making historical patterns less predictive. Hurricane Beryl is the earliest Category 4 storm ever recorded, and this week it is wreaking havoc in the Caribbean. I’m thinking of Patricia Shako and Abt Global’s Caribbean RESET team and their families, who are sheltering through this terrifying storm in Barbados, where they are working to increase financing available for adaptation, resilience, and disaster recovery. https://lnkd.in/evkTvPbJ

Today is the first day of Hurricane Preparedness Week. Right now, you can begin preparing for inclement weather. Communities hundreds of miles inland can experience damage from wind and water caused by a hurricane. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reminds us that we need to know our geography in order to understand our risk. Are you in an evacuation zone? Is the building you live, work, or learn in structurally sound? How do you know? Visit the NOAA Know Your Risk: Water & Wind web page to learn about storm surge, flooding, and hurricane-force winds. And come back tomorrow when we’ll post about some of the things you can do now to get ready. #HurricaneReady

Hurricane season is here, bringing lessons from past impacts and better strategies for supporting coastal communities in the US. One of these strategies, the COASTAL Act, establishes goals for a framework for assessing hurricane damage. In our latest lesson, you’ll learn about this framework and the data and tools under development by NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration to support its partners during and after a tropical cyclone event. This lesson is geared toward anyone involved in hurricane damage assessment and those residing in these communities who want to learn more about this process. #hurricaneseason #coastalact #coastalcommunities ➡ COASTAL Act Overview and Requirements lesson: https://lnkd.in/gS8UriHx ➡ 1,000+ free weather, water, and climate resources: https://lnkd.in/g7f4VZV3
