I grew up with both Gen 1 & 2, and 4 anime. The safest choice, of course, would be the remakes of Gen 2 games — HeartGold and SoulSilver. The mix of Gen 4 graphics and expansive map of Gen 2. Though, a "sleeper pick" would be Gen 5 games (Black & White). The only gen that got direct sequels, had animated sprites which looked amazing. Don't get me started on seasonal weather changes — the best design decision in favour of immersiveness and beauty🤩 While, unfortunately, games have started to lose their identity to my feeling, the anime is going strong now with "Pokémon Horizons".

Let`s be honest: There are only 151 Pokemon ;) Of course Gen1. Let`s Go Pikachu was a great remake and a good experience to re-experience my childhood memories. Besides the digital Versions on 3DS i still own my cartridges with Mew on my yellow Version. But the remake of Gold was also great. At first i was playing and it was boring. After some years, i replayed it and then, when the story leads you back to Kanto... holy, that was an epic moment. And of course i still got my pokemon cards. Also the promo cards from the first movie. Funfact: I bought the nintendo guidebook for gen 1 new for a few bucks some days ago 😅 Some day i want to get firered and leafgreen, especially for the IR Addons for GBA.

Generation 3 will always hold a special place and will likely be my answer on most days. Generation 5 is a close second with those games being the last of the 2D Pokémon games and, I feel, quite the step into more mature stories and storytelling for the franchise as a whole. There were some risks they took in design, risks that earned them quite the ire from the player base at the time, but risks that I felt only aged better as time went on.

I love the new mechanics of the new games and it’s cool watching my kids engage with it but I remember when it all started. I had red and blue on a game boy pocket and it went with me everywhere. Me and my mates used to go out and pretend to be Pokemon trainers whilst building bases etc. fond memories. I also love the fact that delta now exists on iOS and I can indulge in nostalgia whenever I have a free minute or two.

My favorite generation was 4th and 6th and I've both battled Pokemon as well as slung cards as a kid. My Nokia was a real beast at emulating Gameboy, NES and GBA games

It's sad that the Transformers beat out Superman, which isn't even on thr list.

I'm very vanilla, I only like Gen 1 and that's really it.

Love this line of analysis but I do disagree with two things. a) Galar’s themes were more about Myths vs History being a valued thing, particularly with how important the darkest night is, with a sligth very soft critique of big conglomerations being a danger. If we consider English culture a theme, then gens 1-4 are Japan and its cultures, gen 5 is new york and how unique everything around it is. Gen 6 is france. Gen 7 is polynesian culture, with a big focus on hawaii. Gen 9 is iberian culture (mostly spain but there’s def some portuguese there). b) Hisui is actually considered its own mainline generation, even though it was short. My man Arceus deserves some respect! :P
