“Prestige to set up a Center of Excellence for Quantum Computing” Prestige Education Foundation, in partnership with AIC-Prestige Inspire Foundation, recently hosted an international roundtable conference on quantum computing titled “Opportunities & Technologies Beyond Visibility.” The event drew global dignitaries, experts from the USA, Israel, Germany, and Italy, and key representatives from India’s central and state governments. During the conference, three major Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were signed with key global companies to establish a Center of Excellence for Quantum Computing. This center will specialize in training, skills development, and education, as well as conducting cutting-edge technology projects. Dr. Davish Jain, Chairman of the Prestige Education Foundation and Chancellor of the Prestige University, stated, “Quantum computing is poised to transform the world, and at Prestige, we acknowledge both the opportunity and the challenge. We are establishing a Center of Excellence for Quantum Computing and other advanced technologies in collaboration with top international companies. This initiative will drive skill development and research, benefiting students and society.” Andre Kinog, CEO of GQI USA, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are pleased to partner with Prestige and are committed to bringing the benefits of quantum computing to India.” Dr. Sanjeev Patni, CEO of AIC-Prestige Inspire Foundation, highlighted the event’s significance, saying, “This conference is the first international conference in India on quantum computing. We at Prestige are keen to bring valuable knowledge to India and Indore.” The “BEYOND VISIBILITY” conference provided a unique platform for attendees to gain a comprehensive understanding of quantum computing and its transformative potential. It was attended by scientists, researchers from the USA, Israel, and Italy, high-ranking officials, policymakers from India’s central and state governments, including C-DAC, NITI Aayog, and MPSEDC, renowned industry leaders, and technology experts.

Early adopters of #quantumcomputing are poised to reap the rewards. In 2023, organizations invested 7% of their R&D budget in quantum computing, up 29% from 2021. By 2025, this is expected to further increase by another 25%. Additional research shows the global quantum computing market valued at $866 million in 2023—and it’s anticipated to reach $4.375 billion by 2028, a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 38.3%. Contagious innovators. QROs tend to be advanced in other innovative technologies as well. In fact, quantum-ready organizations run 48% more AI workloads than their least-ready counterparts. Talent nurturers. QROs have a greater understanding of the skills gap—identified as the top barrier to adopting quantum computing—and are nearly three times more effective in their workforce development approaches. These include developing internal quantum skills, attracting STEM talent, and partnering with academic institutions and research labs. Last week, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and IBM officially unveiled the world's first-ever IBM quantum computer on a university campus. Building on RPI's bicentennial celebration of 200 years of firsts, IBM Quantum System One will significantly enhance educational and research opportunities for the university, as well as with other academic institutions and organizations across the New York region that wish to partner with RPI. Faculty, researchers, students, and collaborators accessing the system will aim to advance quantum computing research, including the search for quantum algorithms that could lead to quantum advantage, while also actively building the next generation of the quantum workforce alongside IBM. "Standing at the forefront of quantum computing as the first university to host an IBM Quantum System One is a fitting celebration of RPI's pioneering legacy in our bicentennial year," said RPI President Marty A. Schmidt. "With trustee Curtis Priem's support and our enduring partnership with IBM, we'll utilize advanced computing for global problem-solving and train future quantum professionals, aiming to establish the Capital Region as a hub for quantum innovation – our own 'Quantum Valley'. The new IBM Quantum System One at RPI is powered by a 127-qubit IBM Quantum 'Eagle' processor, to offer RPI's network of researchers, students and partners dedicated access to a utility-scale quantum computer. In 2023, IBM demonstrated the ability of IBM Eagle to produce accurate calculations beyond classical, brute-force simulation methods. As I begin winding down my final day before my official retirement tomorrow, Saturday, June 1st - I just updated my LinkedIn title/headline to “Retired Technologist, Freelance Consultant, and Software Developer” - I reflect on where the quantum computing sector is at and where it’s going. I would sincerely wish to say that quantum computing is in a good place, a great place, that it has a good direction and good goal, a great direction and a great goal, that it’s on a good trajectory to that goal, a great trajectory to that goal, that it’s on a good path to follow that trajectory, a great path to follow that trajectory, and that it should arrive at that goal (presumably practical quantum computing for a fairly wide range of practical real-world applications, whatever that really is) in fairly short order, even very soon, but… NONE of that is true, not even close! Sigh... Oh, sure, there is lots of activity and even lots of incremental advances, but it’s simply not enough to give a solid thumb’s up vote of great confidence in where quantum computing is at and where it’s going. Roadmaps? They raise alarm rather than offer enlightenment, for me. People will continue to slog, limp, and lurch along for some time, and then maybe eventually, somebody will figure SOMETHING out and then quickly reach what I have been calling The ENIAC Moment for quantum computing, where people can finally do something seriously useful with a quantum computer. But not soon and we’re not even on the right path. And even then, quantum computing might only be capable, even in theory, of achieving only a tiny fraction of its promised capabilities. I’ll keep out an eye on occasion, but I’m not hopeful for any really momentous breakthrough any time soon. But maybe the slower pace of my retirement might be the exactly right vantage point for watching the progress of quantum computing! Time will tell! AWS Quantum Computing: Made Easy Happy weekend all. This evening I decided to continue my exploration on Quantum Computing in AWS. After about one hour of digging I came out with how to do it. In Amazon Web Services (AWS), the recommended way to engage in quantum computing is through the quantum computing service called Amazon Braket. Here's a high-level guide on how to get started: 1.Access Amazon Braket Go to the Amazon Braket console: [Amazon Braket Console](https://lnkd.in/d5wsT9TA). 2. Explore the Amazon Braket Console - Familiarize yourself with the Amazon Braket console, where you can access various quantum computing resources. 3. Understand Quantum Hardware: - Amazon Braket provides access to a variety of quantum processors, including Rigetti, IonQ, and D-Wave. Understand the characteristics and capabilities of each quantum processor available. 4. Create Quantum Circuits: - Develop quantum circuits by specifying the sequence of quantum gates and operations to be applied to qubits. It is done using quantum programming languages such as Python, Qiskit, Cirq, or Braket SDK. 5. Specify Quantum Hardware or Simulator: -Specify whether you want to run your quantum circuit on an actual quantum processor or a simulator. Amazon Braket provides access to both quantum processors and simulators. 6. The milestone that most observers use to measure the progress of quantum computing is known as quantum advantage—the point when a quantum machine outperforms the most powerful classical computer possible on a task of practical use and relevance. It’s a high standard and one that’s open to interpretation. More important, it doesn’t address the fundamental question that buyers of IT ask: Can quantum computing solve problems for the business faster or more efficiently than the tools it currently uses? To gauge the progress of quantum computers toward practical usefulness, we are tracking the development of what we call enterprise-grade quantum computing. This milestone marks the point at which businesses determine that quantum computers provide enough of an edge over their existing tools that companies are willing to use them to solve real business problems. The Future Is Taking Shape Enterprise-grade quantum computing is coming into sight. IBM has improved machine learning for fraud detection, reducing false negatives by 5%, compared with the results from a classical-only model. QC Ware and Goldman Sachs have outperformed classical computers on Monte Carlo simulations, a widely used technique in option pricing and risk management. Cr��dit Agricole has teamed up with Pasqal and Multiverse Computing to predict deteriorating credit scores with the same level of precision and recall as the bank’s classical random forest model with 96% fewer initial classifiers. Small steps forward, achieved in laboratory circumstances. But they point clearly toward real business usage. Assuming that quantum computing hardware companies continue to deliver on their technology-development roadmaps (which they have been doing for the past several years) and that software continues to make better use of the hardware, these milestones signal that enterprise-grade quantum computing can be generating business value by 2025. This is good news for users and for hardware and software providers, but it is also a warning sign for those potential businesses that have yet to start building capabilities. A dearth of capacity and talent will quickly separate winners and losers. Companies that have not invested in use case development and partnerships with providers are likely to find themselves locked out. To make sure their companies are on the right side of this divide, CEOs need to plan for an enterprise-grade quantum computing future now. Rising Demand While the physics behind quantum computing are mystifyingly complex, the potential business impact is plain to see. It all comes from a single quantum-advantaged mathematical function, known as sparse matrix math, which unlocks four types of computational problems that have confounded traditional machines.
