Last month, our AI expert Chase Ballard reviewed Gemini for Google Workspace and immediately got requests to review Microsoft Copilot’s similar features. Here’s why Chase vastly prefers it: 1. Copilot offers a seamless experience across the Microsoft ecosystem, which Gemini does not deliver on. 2. The ability to convert a Word doc into a Powerpoint presentation with speaker notes blew him away. 3. Copilot helps you summarize long email threads, complex documents, and data heavy spreadsheets into human readable TL;DRs – a game changer. The only thing Chase could ding it on was that Copilot doesn’t quite stack up as a chatbot to the other big players. His verdict? If your company runs on Microsoft, Copilot for Microsoft 365 is a must buy. We’ll link the whole review in the comments.

After publishing a video this morning highlighting my excitement on the potential of Copilot for Microsoft 365 extensibility, that was predicated on this being a promising opt-in preview, I have learned this afternoon that this is now being enabled by default in all environments for Copilot enabled users. I stand by the points I made in my video. This is extremely exciting, extremely promising, and is probably the most important advance on Microsoft's AI journey since the announcement of Copilot last year. However, I also stand by my assessment that these features need more work and more understanding. My suggestion for all is to limit access to these features until you are clear on what they do and how you want to use them in your organization. Clearly, if the use context is just gaining benefit from a Teams message extension you already use, then that's great. But other aspects might be more problematic in some cases, for example the ability to initiate Power Automate flows with natural language. Clearly, on this issue my opinion differs from Microsoft's. It is possible I am misunderstanding exactly the change that has been made, and happy to learn more about this if that is the case.
