The Department of Justice's Intelligent Records Consolidation Tool, developed in collaboration with the Savan Group and managed by the agency’s Justice Management Division, remains in its pilot phase after over three years. This AI-driven software, one of only four AI use cases listed in the DOJ's inventory as mandated by a 2020 executive order, aims to streamline records management by evaluating the similarity of record schedules, thereby reducing workload. Despite its promise and the Biden administration's push for AI adoption in federal agencies, progress has been slow, with no clear discussion within the agency about its advancement beyond the pilot stage. The DOJ's AI strategy underlines the importance of such tools for operational improvement, while ensuring adequate human oversight and safeguards.
