Virtual tourism won't replace IRL travel but certainly stands to augment our options for exploring the world. I'll never travel to Siberia or Tunisia again, and I'll likely never explore remote parts of the underwater world. But coming in second will be an experience capable of immersing me accurately and convincingly. And as air travel becomes less appealing and appealing parts of the world grow less accessible, this stands as a rich portal to those sites. Add full-body haptics and bring a friend to the experience, and the experience becomes that much more visceral and memorable.

This diving training system in Virtual Reality is called Subside. VR is getting ever more realistic, both in visuals and physics, meaning there's no end to the places we can explore. Where would you like to go? Check out SITE Network for more travel destinations and experiences in Virtual Reality

Love this. Especially for the elderly and those with mobility challenges. The current interface is still pretty cumbersome for many of the folks I’m thinking of.... but it’s moving in the right direction. I would love pointers to any companies that are focused in immersive solutions for the elderly.
