Problems with satellite programs forced Airbus to take 600 million euros ($650 million) in charges in 2023. The company announced the charges, 200 million euros higher than previously reported, in the company’s 2023 financial results released Feb. 15. “They account for revised timelines, they account for better cost estimates, as well as for the reassessment of the commercial risk and also the opportunities that we have,” said Thomas Toepfer, Airbus chief financial officer, at a briefing about the results. He did not elaborate on the specific issues that caused the charges but suggested that the company had at least a better understanding of the problems. “While I would say that this high-tech business always carries some risk, we have now a balanced assessment of the business in our accounts.” Contact CRG for pre/post award support. AVCON JET has become the launch customer for Satcom Direct's new SD Plane Simple terminal. This state-of-the-art Electronically Steered Antenna (ESA) Ku-band, flat panel terminal is set to enhance fleet connectivity by connecting with Eutelsat OneWeb’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network. Launch vehicle telemetry expected to become commercially available faster as InRange moves to market Viasat is working with Safran Data Systems, Inc. to jointly bring InRange to market so launch providers and spaceports can relay launch vehicles’ telemetry in flight throughout their trajectory - and without having to rely on ground networks.  InRange uses Viasat’s global L-band satellite fleet - which Viasat now operates following the acquisition of Inmarsat in May - to provide real-time telemetry data for launch missions. By using space-based communications, InRange will allow launch mission controllers to monitor the performance of missions beyond the line of sight, without the need for ground communications infrastructure.
