Today I was happy and privileged to take part in a panel at the City of Toronto Cybersecurity Event at City Hall Council Chambers discussing “Public Private Partnerships to combat cybercrime and fraud”. Thank you Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA) and Mastercard for putting this together and for inviting me. It’s always encouraging when I hear my fellow panelists echoing my message of knowledge and awareness being the key to defending our communities, including the small business community, from cyber attacks and fraud. Introducing Caroline Frère, Head of Department a.i. at the Federal Computer Crime Unit, as another keynote speaker at CIONET Belgium's upcoming event, Cybercrime: Big Business, on October 10 in Wilrijk! “Overcoming cybercrime requires illuminating the shadows. People understandably prioritise a quick resumption of activities, fearing that filing a report might delay their recovery. However, the truth is that rapid recovery and reporting don't necessarily conflict with each other. While the police are acutely aware of an organisation's dilemma and strive to assist efficiently, it's vital to recognise that every unreported crime hides a network and strengthens cybercriminals. In the interest of the community, law enforcement seeks as much information as possible to effectively combat cybercrime. The challenge lies in balancing individual priorities with the broader safety of the community." Join us on October 10 for the CIONET Cybercrime: Big Business event and delve deeper into these insights with cybersecurity experts, including Caroline.
