"Did you know Chicago has two shorelines? One along Lake Michigan and a second, lesser known one, along the Chicago River. Chicago’s Riverwalk, spans 1.3-miles and 2,800 feet, provides a continuous walkway. Through engineering ingenuity, existing materials were salvaged to enable residents, workers, and visitors to connect with the many recreational, cultural, and economic amenities offered by the Chicago River. 🎨 🏗 Simcoe County planning $18-million museum expansion 🎨 Construction of Matthews Innovation and Transportation Gallery is part of an estimated $18-million expansion of heritage and cultural buildings at the Simcoe County Museum. Zero-carbon buildings save on utility costs and include: 📌 In the establishment and century-long operation of county forests, the County of Simcoe has demonstrated foresight and innovation through charred timber construction. 📌 With triple-glazed windows, heritage and display buildings are able to enjoy a stunning view, while the artifacts on display benefit from both increased insulation and UV protection. 📌 A solar panel array offsets the hydro consumption required to power the addition and provides countless interpretive opportunities for discussing innovation, sustainability, and future environmental impacts. Simcoe County Museum's 100th anniversary will be celebrated in 2030 when all phases are completed. Approximately 2026 is the estimated completion date for Phase 1. #houseofcerrelli #News #ConstructionNews #OntarioConstructionNews #Toronto #CanadaConstruction #TorontoConstructionNews #LatestNews #Ontario #SimcoeCountry #MuseumExpansion #MatthewsInnovation #TransportationGallery #SimcoeCountyMuseum #ZeroCarbonBuildings Reference: Robin, M. It's finally here.... I'm pleased to announce a new and exciting chapter for Built Environments - North Carolina! Many already know that I have joined forces with Jarrett Davis to offer a new and even bolder brand of building science. Our new Carolina testing facility is bigger, better, and full of ideas! Expect many new announcements in the coming months! Though I'll still have a major presence in Minnesota, my immediate focus now involves enclosure performance in hot, humid coastal environments. These initiatives will only grow in the coming years. Along the way, we'll tackle (and develop) new products, new approaches, and new ways of thinking about the built environment. #buildingscience #northcarolina #buildingenvelope #buildingenclosure #buildingproducts #materialsscience #materialscience #researchanddevelopment #research #letsdothis

"The greenest building is the one that already exists." - Carl Elefante, former president of the The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Renovating buildings dramatically reduces the embodied carbon associated with the manufacture, transport, and assembly of construction materials. Studies have shown that renovating Chicago's Century and Consumers buildings would prevent the release of 12,500 TONS of carbon into the atmosphere. It would take dense forest covering an area from Hyde Park to Lincoln Park—10,000 acres—an entire YEAR to capture all of this carbon. Plus, transforming the buildings into renovated, carbon neutral structures could provide much-needed housing in an area close to school, work, and entertainment. Make a difference this Earth Day!
