Sarah Tilley’s Post

Personal update alert! It has long been a dream to join the Board of an organization that is truly making a difference in the world and I am humbled and honored to share that that dream has come true. Every since I was a young girl, witnessing fellow human beings experiencing homelessness has affected me to my core. And we are in a crisis. On a national level and on a global level....and Los Angeles is no exception. The Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) is the only organization in Los Angeles focused exclusively on serving and empowering women experiencing homelessness and formerly homeless women. DWC is changing the lives of women every day and are manifesting a vision of a Los Angeles with every woman housed and on a path to personal stability. Its mission is to end homelessness for women in greater Los Angeles through housing, wellness, employment, and advocacy. Founded in 1978, DWC was the first permanent supportive housing provider for women in the U.S. I take this honor and responsibilty very seriously and will do all that I can to continue to lift and celebrate these deserving women through the work of DWC. Thank you Downtown Women's Center for trusting me to be associated with your mission and purpose.

This is awesome Sarah!👍Congrats! As a fellow Angelenos it is great to know you & others care about the tremendous Homelessness Problem her in Los Angeles. As I drive around this city every day & witness the magnitude of homelessness here, it's unfathomable & unconscionable how in the Greatest & Wealthiest Nation on Earth, the United States of America, there could be so much large scale homelessness. Many of whom are not on drugs, nor have criminal backgrounds, nor have mental health issues. Rather, just average everyday people facing financial and economic hard times with Apartments rents at a stagerring $3,500/month (i.e $70,000/yr just for rent, that many can not afford. All I see is new apartment units going up often by the same few Landlords, for which the average person making even $20 to $50/hr can not afford. Certainly this is only the tip of the iceberg regarding this issue. Los Angeles is being left with just Two Economic Classes, the rich and the poor. The middle class often are holding onto dear life, & many have mass exodused to other states in order to prevent the tsunami of homelessness from engulfing them & their families. However, I'd love to sit down with you to learn more about the work that you all are doing.
