🏴☠️ Why My Teams are the Captains of Their Own Pirate Ships 🏴☠️ Ahoy, LinkedIn! So, running a software business is a lot like captaining a pirate ship. Seriously, hear me out! As the captain, you have a mission: to find that treasure (aka reach your goals). But you can't dig up treasure chests or ward off rival pirates by yourself. You need a crew. A team. And, boy, do they have ideas about how to sail the ship! ⚓ They Care, So I Care ⚓ When I create a business, I lay down the mission and overall vision, then I let my crew, erm, team, do the rest. They care about what they care about, and as long as we're all rowing towards the same island, I let them sort out the details. In my pirate utopia, the team hires and fires. Yes, you read that right. Why? Because no one knows better than them who can best help the team and who, frankly, is just making everyone else want to jump overboard. 🔱 Throwing the Star Player Overboard? 🔱 You might think, "Hold on, doesn't this mean they might fire the most productive person?" Well, yes. It has happened. Sometimes a pirate who can swing a sword like no other can also ruin the morale of the crew. What good is one star player when the rest of the crew is walking the plank of unhappiness? T 🤗 A Crew that Cares 🤗 Sometimes a crew may cover for a sailor who's going through a rough patch. Let's be honest, we all have our "seasick" moments. A great team throws you a lifesaver when you fall overboard, instead of leaving you to the sharks. Because guess what? That's what great teams do. 🔍 It's About the WHOLE Crew 🔍 Here’s the deal, as long as the ship reaches its destination, I don’t micromanage how each pirate, I mean team member, swabs the deck. I don't care about individual productivity. Or who is doing the most or more. If the crew cares about that... then they will take care of that. I care that the crew works together to fend off the Kraken, find the treasure, and, hopefully, enjoy the rum—uh, I mean, the journey! So, are you running your ship like a captain who insists on steering the ship alone in a storm, or are you trusting your crew to work together to sail you through rough and calm waters alike? ⚔️ Your ship, your rules. Update Mon Dec 4, 2023 We are making a map of how, when and who to notify about different types of firsthand accounts of what happened. The mapping and accountability we bring to authorized firsthand answers is what I appreciate most about starting the mate3.com network. We place a premium value on the one who has had the firsthand experience. Mate3 cares about organizing around what happened using policies as compared to personalities and positions. We are organized around our roles to respond to incoming answers about what happened.  In the network we’ve agreed on policies for responding to incoming firsthand accounts of what happened. We dedicate time and transparency to finding the best practices for receiving, sorting, and shipping 3 answers to get the most productive responses. For us psychological safety precautions are crucial to building a trusted and secure pipeline. For us the best pipeline relies on mutual agreements to have 2-way responsive communication. We’ve learned that to sustain the best outcomes, we systematically need to adjust our rules for increasing trust and scalability of mutually agreed communications. To properly function those that engage the mate3.com network must understand they are partners in a communication agreement. Since different people are bringing their different experiences, passions, weaknesses and beliefs to the process, the process must have agreement to rules for smooth managing of the different firsthand accounts.

My thanks and appreciation! Tony D. thank you so much for referring Skyway Brokerage as a reliable company to handle some freight. I appreciate the information and advice you have shared with me, without actually knowing me personally. When I first got on LinkedIn I was terrified to post anything that seemed against the "rules", or that didn't have some sort of insightful message embedded into it. So basically I spammed my first two hundred connections with a sales message that almost worked one time. 😅 However, once I stumbled across the HMB podcast that is when I started to break out of my shell. I began to engage, and took notes on the topics that were discussed. I looked forward every week to watching Tony, TJ, and Jeff throw one back while talking some "ship." Mostly because of their no excuse, no BS attitudes that you fellas possess. That podcast helped me eliminate laziness from my daily routine, and strive for quality over quantity. You're just my kind of people! 🤘 I'm not a freight broker! That would insinuate that the primary focus is to be the intermediary between two companies. I'm part of a team that works together closely to ensure we exceed expectations within all of our partnerships. Efficiency is at it highest when we ALL work together! That goes for the industry as a whole, regardless of what company you work for. Quit pointing fingers, and start being better! Not all brokers/brokerages are bad. There are actually a lot of benefits your freight agent can provide you with. Flexibility, efficiency, and the ability to handle last minute changes are just a few examples. An honest freight broker can definitely save you time and money. Usually! 😉 IMO, having a service provider like MDS TRUCKING V INC, and Skyway Brokerage adds a lot more tools to your reservoir. One of the biggest advantages is working with ONE specific company for the entire logistical process. Just like a broker offers themselves as a single point of contact, but on a much larger scale. If our asset division can't handle the request, I'm certain our brokerage can, and will. No one company can do it all, but having the right partners in your network is critical in order to succeed. Overall we are a great company. MDS has been around for 18 years with it's original MC#. I think that says a lot! Skyway can do it all! Having access to both significantly improves customer service, and reliability. Reputation is important in the freight world. My mission is to continue help build ours as I proceed to learn and grow.
