Culture plays a pivotal role in the success and sustainability of any business - not just as an internal organizational asset but also a strategic tool that shapes external perceptions and relationships, ultimately determining long-term business success. And an organization's culture is tied directly to its leader. A recent Inc. Magazine article highlights the importance of culture and the direct correlation to an organization's leader with a real-life example at Google. #ibc #leadership #mentorship https://lnkd.in/ehvgffV4

Closing Engagement Gaps: I guide companies through cultural challenges, change resistance, and developing managers to drive business performance.
Linking arms, hearts, and voices with Steve Urquhart on this sentence: "More than anything else, culture is about the way people feel about working for you. It's about their relationship to their work and the people they do that work with -- especially their leaders." And this doesn't mean talking about kids' soccer games and "showing the company cares" by having onsite services. It does mean that human beings have pretty specific and common definitions of what a good relationship looks like: ➤ Reciprocity: We mutually care about each other as humans. Humans who have dreams, flaws, mistakes, joys, fears. ➤ Protection: We protect each other and our human rights to equality, to being treated with decency and respect, to be free from judgment, humiliation, marginalization, or being made to feel small. ➤ Certainty and stability: We can count on each other to say what we mean and do what we say. In an organization built on hierarchy - which they all are despite so many attempts and falsehoods about "flat structure" and "open office environments" which simply result in unnecessary complexity and chaos - it is 1000% those in positions of authority (all leaders and managers, not just the titled ones) who own the responsibility of "going first."

The most important job of any leader is to shepherd the culture of the organization they lead. Most leaders think culture is about values and mission statements. It isn't. This is why most managers are bad at building a healthy culture. More than anything else, culture is about the way people feel about working for you. It's about their relationship to their work and the people they do that work with -- especially their leaders. — Jason Aten https://lnkd.in/eC9CVcVJ #google #culture #leadership #inc

Good leadership can be measured based on the quality of the decisions made. But great leadership - true leadership - is measured on the culture that they have been a steward of.

Wow. "You see, the most important job of any leader is to shepherd the culture of the organization they lead. You can argue that the most important role of a leader is to set priorities or make decisions, but the reality is that neither of those things matter if your culture is broken. No one will stick around to follow your priorities or listen to your decisions if they hate working for you." 🎤 Mic Drop 💣 #culturematters #leadershipmindset https://lnkd.in/ggzMyaPw

Very helpful. "Most leaders think culture is about values and mission statements. It isn't. It's not even about building cool products. More than anything else, culture is about the way people FEEL about working for you and leadership defines that for employees. BTW, the author states, most managers are BAD at building a healthy culture. " #leadershipmatters #leadership #leadershipgoals #workculturematters #work #management #manager

Going through my inbox today, I found a notice from Google that their Terms of Service was changing. I admit that I rarely read these but I thought I'd check it out. Most of the time, companies use the legalese language provided by attorneys. It's dull and requires deciphering the meaning, which is why I'm not the only one who ignores these. Google didn't go that route and it got me thinking about challenging the status quo. Every time I have done this, whether in my work or personally, it's been a positive experience. Today, you might think about taking a risk and challenging the status quo in your own way. New ideas are powerful. #ideas #challengestatusquo #leadership #positivemomentum

One of the best articles I have read on the role of leadership ... What are you thoughts about the importance of creating the right culture? /https://lnkd.in/dA9gpU-b "You see, the most important job of any leader is to shepherd the culture of the organization they lead. You can argue that the most important role of a leader is to set priorities or make decisions, but the reality is that neither of those things matter if your culture is broken. It's not even about building cool products. This, by the way, is why most managers are bad at building a healthy culture. More than anything else, culture is about the way people feel about working for you." So key: "It's about their relationship to their work and the people they do that work with -- especially their leaders." BTW, not taking any position on the CEO. Hope he sorts things out. #culturematters #leadershipmindset Julius Bachmann Luca Bitonto Inez Vermeulen PhD
