We are pleased to have won the 1st prize in the design study "Redensification in timber construction using the example of Neues Stöckach" with our design, which is based on 3 criteria: Maximum preservation of existing buildings and use of secondary building materials. Innovations that are easy to reproduce Durability through passive measures and minimised building technology It is nice to see that our guiding idea 'A regionally determined building method that uses what already exists and only borrows from nature what it still needs. Careful to give everything back, but robust enough and beautiful enough to last. - The new Stöckach' was awarded with a prize. Enclosed is an excerpt from the press release of the City of Stuttgart: The contribution of the architectural firm haascookzemmrich STUDIO2050 in collaboration with Rubner Holzbau, knp.Bauphysik, Transsolar and C4 Engineers convinced the jury. The design is based to a large extent on the following criteria: maximum preservation of existing buildings, use of secondary building materials, easily reproducible innovations, durability of the construction and minimal building services. Sustainability is not limiting creativity. Developed as part of the Carbon Concrete Composite (CCC) research programme, The Cube building is showcasing how carbon concrete – a form of concrete reinforced with carbon fibre instead of steel is able to lower the GWP despite the fact that carbon fibre by itself has a high carbon footprint. The Cube's concrete elements were made using two methods of fabrication: shotcrete that was sprayed onto carbon fibre sheets overlaid on a plywood formwork and prefabricated concrete panels, also containing layers of carbon sheets.

Let me take you on a journey through the project, where concrete played a starring role in our pursuit of engineering excellence. 🌆 🚧 The Challenge: Our team embarked on a mission to design a sustainable high-rise building that would withstand the test of time, extreme weather conditions, and environmental pressures. We needed a material that would be both versatile and durable, and that's when concrete emerged as our prime candidate. 💡 🔨 Unveiling the Secrets of Concrete: In the early stages, we dove deep into the history and chemistry of concrete, learning about its ancient roots and how advancements in technology have transformed it into the backbone of modern construction. The discovery of various additives and techniques allowed us to optimize the mix for our specific project. 📚 💡 Innovating with Reinforcements: To enhance the building's structural integrity, we incorporated innovative reinforcement methods. From rebar to advanced fiber-reinforced polymers, we strategically reinforced critical sections, enabling the concrete to bear substantial loads with grace and resilience. 💪 🌱 A Sustainable Touch: Environmental consciousness was at the heart of our project. We explored eco-friendly alternatives to traditional cement, such as supplementary cementitious materials, which drastically reduced our carbon footprint. Together, we aimed to build not just a structure, but a legacy of sustainable construction. 🌿 🌆 Rising to New Heights: As the construction progressed, our vision began to materialize. Witnessing the gradual rise of the concrete structure, we marveled at the convergence of art and science in architecture. The emotional connection to the project deepened as we visualized the impact it would have on countless lives. 🌇 🌊 Weathering the Storm: The true test of concrete's mettle came during severe weather events. Withstanding intense winds and torrential rains, our creation emerged victorious, proving that concrete was not only a robust choice but also a reliable shield against nature's fury. 🌪️ 🌟 A Proud Culmination: Finally, the moment of triumph arrived as we unveiled the completed high-rise. Reflecting on this concrete journey, I am humbled and grateful to have been part of such a transformative project.
