And, as you know, the data so closely examined by school committees and leaders to evaluate school progress and student outcomes becomes complicated due to the influence of private tutoring. When external factors like private tutoring interfere with a study or assessment, the resulting data is flawed and misleading. In this case, the tutoring is a confounding variable. To accurately analyze the data, schools should include "private tutoring" as a variable and adjust for it statistically. Accounting for tutoring is crucial in assessing school progress and student outcomes effectively!

BACKGROUND: Malik's Charitable Foundation was established in 2018 by Regina Walker. Regina's passion for community service and her son, Malik, inspired her to address the educational needs of underprivileged students. MCF provides school supplies, book bags and books, benefiting over 100 local students. This support improves attendance, self-esteem, and enthusiasm for learning. OUR MISSION: To empower underprivileged students by providing them with the necessary tools and resources to excel in their education and future goals. HOW WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED OUR MISSION: In the 2022-2023 academic school year, we were able to attend an event at a local school during their Open House, where we were able to distribute book bags to deserving students. This event was a testament to MCF's commitment to fostering educational equity and nurturing the academic potential of every child. Furthermore, MCF's outstanding work through this event was recognized when the foundation was featured in the January 13, 2023 edition of the South Suburban News Newspaper. The Smithson Public School in Kitchener has had the same playground structure for over 25 years! It is a cornerstone of our community and unfortunately, it is facing imminent closure. This closure will not only deprive the children at Smithson School of a safe and engaging play space but also affect the families in our Rosemount community who rely on the school yard and play structure as one of the few accessible playgrounds. Currently, the playground is being repaired by parents/community members who take it upon themselves to “sneak in” and do small repairs to keep the structure functioning and safe for our children. However, as stated above the current play structure is approaching a state of disrepair, and its closure is inevitable. Our goal is to raise money to replace the playground structure this year. We have been doing our best this past year and have raised a fraction of the needed cost. My wonderful network, On 19th June, I will be abseiling off The Access Group HQ to raise funds for Magic Breakfast. Their vision is that no child is too hungry to learn. Did you know that 4 million children in the UK are at risk of hunger? And hungry children can’t concentrate, so their ability to learn is impacted from the outset, leaving more than a quarter of all children at risk of missing out on their education. Magic Breakfast provides free breakfasts and support to over 200,000 schoolchildren in disadvantaged communities facing hunger daily. Research shows that having a 'magic' breakfast can boost attainment in key subjects by an average of two months’ progress in primary school and improve GCSE results by up to two grades, dramatically changing children’s future prospects. 🔶 Empathy in Action: Understanding Dyslexia with CFS Donors 🔶 Imagine the frustration of trying to read when letters and words dance around, or struggling to spell and write while falling behind in school. These are the challenges faced by students with dyslexia – challenges that compassionate donors from CFS (Community Foundation of Singapore) got a firsthand insight into during their recent visit to the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS). As part of CFS’s Donor Learning Trips, this visit allowed donors to connect personally with charities, gaining profound insights into their support for communities in need. The visit left a lasting impact, as Mr. Sim Willing, President of the IFPAS Love Fund, shared, "It was an eye-opening experience." DAS provides dyslexia screenings, psychological assessments, and vital remediation. Dyslexia, a neurological condition affecting around 10% of the population, has lifelong effects on learning and is more common than many realize.
