Mrs. Murty goes to Delhi (Parliament) During the time I have known her, my mother, Sudha Murty, has been an engineer, a programmer, a professor (of computer science), author, philanthropist, mother, and wife. And yesterday, at the age of 74, she just started a new career - as a member of the upper house of the Indian parliament. Here she is before she left home on her first day!

It was my final Semester in Year 73 at IISc. Needed to spend lot of time at library and used to stay till it closed. The reason I had to spend more time in library was that my first MS thesis advisor got very busy with some new administrative role and asked me select another advisor, though I had spent about 3 months on the topic of his expertise. The new advisor had suggested a more challenging topic on a new type of bridge, Cable-Stayed-Girder Suspension Bridge. Almost every night when I used to leave the library I used to see a young, studious female student still sitting at the desk when clerk was reminding everyone to leave because of closing time. Guess that is the studious student who now has earned the highest level honor of the country, representing the whole state of Karnataka. ಅಭಿನಂದನೆಗಳು ಡಾ ಸುಧಾ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರೆ (congratulations Dr. Sudha Murty)

So proud! #someoneilookupto! When I came to Bangalore after my graduation, I was completely scared and overwhelmed by the busy urban life around me. It was all new to me; I was born and brought up in a small rural village in Kerala. I didn't know Kannada or Hindi, and my English was very poor(broken). I was scared of life here each day. One day, when I got off the bus, I saw a used book seller on the footpath asking me to buy some books! With the little money I could save from my salary, I spent it all buying books written by #SudhaMurty. My English started improving by reading her books; they were simple, powerful, and the stories were emotionally connected to my own childhood memories! They had given me confidence, and the best medicine to spend my time after office hours. I was addicted! I'm sure she will definitely bring more magic in her current role too. ✨

Sudha Ajji - I started knowing her better after reading Wise & Otherwise, The Three Thousand Stitches, and watching a dozen of her interviews soon after. Since then, she's become the lady I admire the most & someone I strive to be like! Her simplicity truly inspires me to the core. She feels like an educated version of my Ajji (grandma) - who got an opportunity to study, build a career & follow her heart & inspire millions of girls out there. I can't stop loving this lady!❤️ I remember sending her a couple of emails during lockdown, very naively, explaining how much she inspired me - now wondering if she ever got a chance to read them in her occupied schedule. I truly wish to meet her someday! Rohan Murty, you're lucky to call her your mother. ;))

She has redefined 3 aspects and inspired million hearts.. 1) age is never a limiting factor if you have the energy and ambition to keep achieving higher and higher.  2) career women do not have to be super human being, they just need to be human being and cultivate a supportive ecosystem and openly ask for help.  3) simplicity, and purpose are very critical to inspire and lead.

Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to honorable Rajya Sabha member Sudha Murty . I am fortunate to have few interactions in the past and found her extremely humble, down to earth human being. Last time, I met her on my farewell day in infosys - the best farewell gift I got is a ride with Sudha Murty ma’am and N. R. Narayana Murthy sir.

It was in the year of 2012. I was sitting at the library of Infosys Bhubaneswar DC, suddenly my colleagues came to me and said see who is there. I saw a lady with simple attire standing in front of me with some security and office personnel. I was just amazed to see one of my role models in front of me. She is just amazing like her husband Sri. Narayan Murthy sir.....God bless you both..🙏

All good luck to Sudha Murthy ji. She is an inspiration for many and if such individuals steps in the parliament house there is no way a developing country like India will not develop. Her vision, thought process and humanitarianism is what makes her a poised individual and India requires such leaders who has the ability to think development and forward looking attitude. More power to Sudha ji with good health, long life. Prayers! Really glad to see her becoming a parliamentarian. 👍🙏 #being_me_av

Why are multi billionaires getting into Parliament's such a big deal? There are millions of Indians who deliver justice, equality, pride, education and healthcare to the poorest facing poverty, prejudice, politics, discrimination, and have nothing to support them except for their sheer will to do good for others selflessly. They know more about spirit of India than anyone else that is why Gandhi, unlike posh Nehru, and the founder of Pak left his high paying law job and walked and lived among poor in India.
