Art Recruiter

What does an experienced recruiter do when it comes time for THEM to be interviewed for a job? This is what I did and I hope it helps you. I Answered the Questions - This is the high quality insightful headlines you get from me 😅. Many, many times in an interview I have seen the interviewer report that the candidate did not answer the question. In normal conversations you are able to steer the conversation and choose which direction the conversation flows. An interview is different - the interviewer has written out a list of questions and provided themselves a blank space underneath it to record your answers. If you change the subject, talk around it, or steer the conversation away from answering the question they will know because there will be nothing written in that blank space. It may seem like these are informal conversations where an impression is more important than the content of your answers but, that is not the case. I Explained Things Succinctly - It’s tempting to show the interviewer everything that is great about you and fill up the time demonstrating other things you are good at. It can also be tempting to shrink back and not give the interviewer a reason to disqualify you by answering briefly and shutting down follow up questions. Think of an interview like a test run on working with you. Like if a colleague or subordinate came to you with a question. Thoroughly answer the question, maybe give context (if relevant) and allow them to get back to their desk. I Was Honest About What I Didn’t Know - You will (most likely) not be expected to know everything. Not knowing something isn’t great but, it is infinitely better than being a liar. I have seen people lie in an interview and it will always immediately disqualify them. The interviewer will usually be polite and ask the remaining questions but, it’s over. Was friendly/positive - seeming disinterested or too cool for school will probably not make the interviewers see you as a more desirable candidate. I Showed I was Teachable - Be curious, ask questions, you can even invite criticism. During the interview process there was an assignment. When I was given the opportunity I started by easing some pressure off of the interviewer by explaining that: no assignment could be completed perfectly and although I passed (and made it to this round of interviews) what are some areas that I could improve? Showed my Enthusiasm - Once I knew I was getting an interview I download one* of the games the company works on. I played for a few hours until I understood what was relevant to my future position. I researched the company and discovered a lot of things to be enthusiastic about. I looked up some of the profiles of the people who work at the company and found more things to be excited about. *I had already played 3 of their other games. #interviewhelp #gamingjobs #mooncolony #layoffsupport #artjobs

Love these. Amazing how many times I've interviewed people for WoW or HS roles and they never touched the game or watched a cinematic, anything. Little bit of research goes a long way. "I just saw your War Within cinematic... looks so amazing! I haven't gotten the opportunity to play in depth yet but it's on my to do list... I think I'm going to try Mage." And answer the question, yes! It's easy to get wrapped up in whatever point you're trying to convey that's tangential to the question or whatever story you want to share... and then you realize you never actually answered them. Also, actively listen for counterpoints, counter commenting or counterquestions. There's a reason they're drilling down, and it's not just "to grill you." Also highly underrated "DBAJ" - Don't Be a Jerk. This is a team you're on for 8 hours a day, make them want to spend 8 hours with you, or at least envision tolerating it 🤣
