I am thrilled by the cool ideas that our researchers and students keep turning into new applications and start-up ideas. We have just honored a fascinating energy start-up with the TUM Presidential Entrepreneurship Award.   The Reverion team has developed a sustainable biogas power plant that combines several advantages over previous systems: It is more efficient, can capture CO2 and can not only generate electricity, but also use surplus electricity to produce hydrogen or methane as energy storage.   The company emerged in 2022 from a research project at the Chair of Energy Systems. It was funded in the TUM Venture Lab ChemSPACE as well as in the incubator program XPRENEURS and the accelerator program TechFounders at UnternehmerTUM. Today, Reverion is successful on the market with more than 100 employees.   ...and we have many such success stories at TUM. "Los Angeles County's Bioscience Industry Grows in Microclusters, Westside Biohub Shows Potential for Major Expansion" "The Los Angeles County bioscience industry is evolving into several microclusters, with key hubs including the 101 Biotech Corridor, Santa Clarita Valley, Westwood/Santa Monica, and the San Gabriel Valley. While these microclusters lack the scale of the Bay Area or San Diego, they are attracting significant venture capital. The region has nearly 50,000 bioscience jobs in 2022, with an average wage of $114,000. Recent investments, like the California Center for Immunology in Westwood, could propel the Westwood/Santa Monica cluster into a major bioscience hub." https://lnkd.in/gTikinJC

Global Brain has made an additional investment in Pale Blue Inc. (Pale Blue), a startup developing propulsion systems for micro-satellites, through its KURONEKO Innovation Fund (KURONEKO Fund). Pale Blue is a startup from the University of Tokyo, founded in 2020 by members who have a world-leading track record in the research and development of propulsion systems for micro-satellites. Propulsion systems for micro-satellites have various issues related to technology, price, size, etc. Accordingly, there are　almost no propulsion systems available in the market. Based on the ion engine technology developed at the University of Tokyo, Pale Blue is developing a water-fueled propulsion system for micro-satellites. By using water as the ultimate clean fuel, the product takes into consideration the space environment and the safety of workers. Pale Blue has already been successfully demonstrated their technology in space and is expected to expand globally in the future. Global Brain has decided to additionally invest in Pale Blue because of its advanced technology and competitive advantage. 🌱 Great news for the ever-growing biotech community in Delft: Planet B.io @ Biotech Campus Delft has received a subsidy of €400,000 to realise a fully-equipped Shared Lab. The lab will be available to rent on a flexible basis, providing a valuable asset for start-ups, companies, scientists and educators with a focus on biotech. Once build, it will accommodate up to 24 researchers, 🥽 "We're very happy to receive a €400,000 subsidy from Kansen voor West, propelling Planet B.io's Shared Lab initiative. 📌 “One third of [biotech] companies created in Oxford since 1959 have formed in the last five years” - and the real estate sector has taken notice. A new life science incubator is under construction to provide small companies with R&D space. Currently, up to 30 companies are in need. As someone from a small company, I’m thrilled at this development. Our time in Singapore’s Life Science Incubator not only equipped us with lab space, but also surrounded us with a dynamic, risk-taking, scrappy community of startups that support each other.
