“In our work, it is also about how do we scale empathy in this moment? And especially right now. What is the story that we can tell that brings folks along? We really begin at a human centered approach and community centered approach. What is the story that they want us to tell?” — Jazmín Chávez- JD, CPC This week, I had the pleasure of hosting Jazmín Chávez from Hispanics in Philanthropy in the Feathr studio. As the VP of Innovation, Equity, and Communications, she provided valuable insights on leveraging storytelling, digital strategies, and inclusive design to advance your mission and enhance empathy. Jazmín also shared pivotal moments from her journey, emphasizing the significance of digital tools in shaping narratives and organizing communities. We delved into techniques for gauging impact beyond mere metrics, prioritizing equity in your endeavors, and rallying communities for meaningful change. For a dose of inspiration on mobilizing communities, gauging impact effectively, and prioritizing equity and inclusion in your marketing and communications, tune in [link in the comments] 👇 #nonprofitmarketing #fundraising #advocacy

Some years ago, I was invited to serve as the (volunteer) state director for a new non-profit organization. It was/is called Unite Women. It was spun up in response to the attacks on reproductive rights in Texas and elsewhere. I accepted and for a few months tried to help build up the organization in between my full-time job, parenting, and other volunteer responsibilities. After several months of frustration, I resigned the position. I learned some really important things from that experience. I'll frame them in the non-profit context, but they're pretty universal. 1. An organization HAS to have clear, well-articulated goals. Without them, how can you know how to start, how to build, and how to course correct? 2. Organizations have to support their leaders, with the above goals but also with practical tools to help them build. 3. There may already be another organization doing the thing. It's a waste of energy, money, and community goodwill to replicate other people's work. Partner. Or find a smaller/different niche where there are gaps. 4. Pay people - even if you're a non-profit, you shouldn't ask or expect people to perform key roles in the organization for free. That limits your leadership to retirees or other people who have significant money and leisure. If you're trying to build a strong, diverse organization, that's the wrong way to do it. 5. Do things - for a non-profit to succeed long-term, you need to be active and visible in the community you serve. Organize rallies. Hold teach-ins. Publish a newsletter/blog. Go to the capitol and lobby. Whatever your niche is, work it all the time. I still follow Unite Women on Facebook, and I'm still not sure what their goal is or what they accomplish. It's sad, because I think a lot of talent and energy was wasted that with focus could have built something of value. #nonprofit #volunteer #leadership

🎯 Empowering ambitious women to land THE job and design career success on their terms | Career coach focused on strategic, tactical and emotional aspects to find and Land your dream job | Smart Works Reading EDI Trustee
"Our internal community must better reflect and represent our clients".... This is exactly why I became a Trustee at Smart Works Reading. If we are going to help people from diverse backgrounds, then we need a diverse Board. I was getting frustrated that often the women in the room at fundraisers didn't represent our clients. I suddenly felt like I didn't belong. Eventually I decided to apply to be a Trustee, got the role and am specifically leading on their EDI and recruitment strategies for Smart Works Reading. I got myself a seat at the table 🙌🏾 I'm really proud of this, especially as Smart Works Charity 's mission and values are so aligned with my own. Over the next few weeks / months, I am looking forward to speaking to experts in both the EDI and recruitment fields on LinkedIn and getting their expertise on how we can help / consider people from diverse backgrounds better throughout our processes. Looking forward to learning. If you'd like to be involved, then please do comment below. ___________________________ 👋🏾Hi I'm Padma and I empower women to design career success on their terms and help businesses recruit values aligned talent. ___________________________ 💥Follow my hashtag #careersuccessbydesign #careercoachingforwomen #jobsearchadvice #diversityinclusion

The Circles of Commitment concept revolves around the idea that individuals have varying levels of commitment to a cause, organization or movement, and they can be categorized into different circles based on their levels of engagement and involvement. Think of the inner circle as your core canvassing team, deeply committed to the cause, and the outer circle as potential supporters who may need more information and engagement. By tailoring canvassing strategies to these different levels of commitment, you can effectively mobilize your core team, nurture potential supporters into more active roles, and raise awareness among those who are less engaged. Learn about the other levels in our Canvassing Action Plan found on https://lnkd.in/epbjwnvE #canvassing #campaign #volunteers #mobilizing
