What are the key terms of a just transition?    During an interactive citizen workshop "Transition, energy poverty and projects", held in Petrosani, Romania, as part of the #JUSTEM project, it became clear that for citizens to engage fully with the just transition process, we need to make sure we are all on the same page when it comes to understanding the main aspects such as #sustainabledevelopment  #energypoverty #greeneconomy #socialinclusion.     #JUSTEM has created a handy glossary of key terms to know for just transitions. 🔔🆕 Just released: Our report on “Updating the energy poverty and energy efficiency framework in rural areas across the EU” produced within RENOVERTY Project is now available! Access it here🔗https://lnkd.in/d2WQGsCS This report followed a multi-step approach based on extensive desk research, a European-wide stakeholder #survey, the development of an indicator to identify vulnerable rural areas, and the conduction of more than 60 energy audits in the 7 #RENOVERTY countries to gain a comprehensive overview of the #energypoverty framework on rural and peri-urban areas. In Sudan, “climate wars” are useful scapegoats for bad leaders. "Blaming the climate for water scarcity, land degradation, and rural poverty conveniently deflects scrutiny from how governments pursue exclusionary policies that favor urban constituencies, privilege access to water and land for well-connected agro-businesses, and underinvest in rural communities." Too often in places such as the UK and US, the left have an idealised vision of an industrial worker who will be the agent of change and a rosy vision of returning to the postwar welfare state model. Chaudhary cites the work of eco-modernists Leigh Phillips and Matt Huber, whom he critiques among other things for “treating 2024 as 1924’. Now production is flung all over the world and climate is inherently a cross-border issue – so we must think and organise internationally, he argues.
