The beginnings of RENK's test rig expertise The beginnings of today's RENK Test System GmbH (RTS) date back to the early 1960s. Around 60 years ago, RENK engineers working in vehicle transmission design in Augsburg began developing test rigs for the in-house testing of future vehicle transmissions. At that time, the concept of the energy-saving closed load loop was developed, which is still the characteristic of many RENK test rigs today. These test rigs, which were unique at the time, formed the basis for the development of the "superimposed steering gear for tracked vehicles", for which a patent application was filed in 1965. This transmission, which made steering tracked vehicles easier and increased driving safety, was pioneering at the time and is still one of the main components of modern tracked vehicles today. Today, RENK's Augsburg headquarters is home to 12 test rigs for the development and quality assurance of various transmission types for tracked vehicles. In addition, there is one of the largest and most modern megawatt test facilities for large gear units for a wide variety of applications. Testing applications, which started on a small scale in the 1960s, are now an integral part of the RENK Group's activities and the successful business of RENK Test System GmbH. Motorcycle and Automotive Engine Management Systems In recent years electronic engine and vehicle management has been among the most interesting, dynamic and influential realms in automotive and motorsport engineering. This makes it a moving target for analysis and discussion. Electronic control systems have evolved at light speed compared to everything else on road-going vehicles. This has paved the way for unprecedented levels of reliable, specific power, efficiency, comfort, and safety that would not otherwise be possible. By tweaking the internal configuration tables and maps of an electronic engine management system, the engine can show a complete new personality. Changing a few numbers in the memory of an standard equipment onboard computer could unleash 50 or 100+ HP and release plethora of possibilities for power increases with VE-improving speed parts and power-adders. However, you must do it right, and that is definitely a challenge. Upcoming posts will communicate the theory and practice of designing, modifying, tweaking and tuning performance engine management systems that work.

#NVH Development and Analysis from GETEC Getriebe Technik GmbH Recently our engineers performed NVH-related projects in various aspects: - #Vehicleassessment or bench test #assessment - #rootcause investigation including #simulationmodel setup and #sensitivityanalysis - #solution development - #implementation (Rapid) #prototyping #manufacturing for solution improvements - #verification testing The product range is covering conventional powertrains (vehicle and bus), #hybridvehicle, and full #electric vehicles. GETEC covered the evaluation scope from the component level e.g. gear to the full vehicle level. Crucial is the #objective and #subjective correlation of customer-concerned issues. More requests for NVH improvement are released to GETEC due to the lower surrounding noise level in electric vehicles. Give you some samples of our recent assignments: - Electric drive system NVH assessment with the usage of #ROTEC system - Hybrid drive system gear design review - Torsional vibration and clonk optimization of a bus powertrain - Vehicle-level NVH benchmarking … and more
