It’s Thursday, so you know what that means! It’s time to feature the next BHS Product on our #hawktalk: our Glass Reinforced Nylon #WearRings. Our WRs utilize a premium blend of Glass Fiber and Nylon materials that provide excellent load carrying capabilities. With no need to “sand” them before assembly, we highly recommend that our precision wear rings be incorporated into the design of high-performance #hydraulic #cylinders. Without them, metal-to-metal contact of the cylinder components can cause premature component wear and internal metal contamination, often resulting in cylinder failure. * REMEMBER* We have several manufacturing locations strategically positioned around the world, we offer countless sealing solutions made with the highest quality materials and the fastest turnaround times (ARO) on the market as compared to other industry leaders. Both standard and custom-engineered options are available. 🔧 Understanding the Shore Hardness A Scale! The Shore Hardness Scale measures the hardness of materials, particularly how resistant they are to indentation. The Shore A scale is commonly used for softer, flexible materials like rubber and elastomers. #ShoreHardness #MaterialScience #RubberProperties #IndustrialApplications #MaterialSelection Shore Hardness A Scale: Definition: Measures the resistance of a material to indentation, indicating its hardness. Scale Range: 0 to 100, where 0 is extremely soft and 100 is very hard. Measurement Process: A durometer device presses a standardized indenter into the material. The depth of penetration indicates the material's hardness. Key Features: Soft Materials: Lower Shore A values (0-40), e.g., gels, soft rubber. Medium Hardness: Mid-range values (40-70), e.g., car tires, shoe soles. Hard Materials: Higher Shore A values (70-100), e.g., hard rubber, plastic. Applications: Rubber and Elastomers: Determining the suitability for seals, gaskets, hoses, and more. Plastic Materials: Evaluating hardness for consumer goods, industrial parts, and components. Quality Control: Ensuring material consistency and performance in manufacturing. Common Materials and Their Shore A Hardness: Silicone Rubber: Typically 20-80 Shore A, depending on formulation. Neoprene Rubber: Generally 40-90 Shore A. Polyurethane: Often 50-95 Shore A, widely used in industrial applications. Santoprene: Around 55-90 Shore A, ideal for automotive and industrial uses. Benefits of Shore Hardness Testing: Material Selection: Helps in choosing the right material for specific applications. Performance Prediction: Indicates how a material will behave under stress and load. Quality Assurance: Ensures consistent material properties across production batches. Selecting the appropriate Shore A hardness is crucial for ensuring optimal performance and durability of materials in their intended applications. Contact us for more information and expert guidance on selecting the right hardness for your needs! 🛠️ #MaterialTesting #ShoreAScale #RubberHardness #QualityControl #IndustrialMaterials #MaterialPerformance

Megadyne proudly features its Megalinear timing belts, crafted from thermoplastic polyurethane for superior wear and abrasion resistance. These belts are designed to meet the rigorous demands of lifting, positioning, and conveying applications, with various reinforcement options, including standard steel cords. Available in numerous profiles such as Imperial, Metric T, Metric AT, RPP, HTD, STD, QST, and Flat belt, Megalinear belts are extruded precisely to maintain tight tooth spacing, thickness, and profile shape tolerances. This precision engineering ensures consistent, reliable performance across all applications. Megalinear timing belts can also be extruded with a nylon coating on the drive side, achieving lower noise generation, reduced mesh friction between belt and pulley, and increased wear resistance. The convey side can also benefit from a nylon layer, which facilitates low friction and easy slip—ideal for product accumulation and loading tasks. Additionally, Megalinear belts are available in various urethane compositions—including options suitable for low and high temperatures and food-grade applications—and can be customized in alternative colors to meet specific customer needs. Reach out to me here or Megaydne through their website https://lnkd.in/gvYedabm to learn more on how Megalinear can be customized to optimize your application. #MegadyneGroup #Innovation #MegalinearBelts #EngineeringExcellence

Application areas of elastomers: Material Handling Elastomers play various important roles in material handling equipment. They are especially used in conveyor belts and high-speed conveyor systems. Elastomer coatings make the surfaces of conveyor belts slippery and allow materials to move easily. They also reduce vibration, allowing workers and equipment to operate more comfortably. Elastomer materials increase the efficiency of material handling vehicles, while at the same time providing a long-lasting and reliable performance thanks to their durability. #MaterialHandling #ConveyorBelts #ElastomerCoatings #VibrationReduction #EfficiencyImprovement #Durability #IndustrialEngineering

Consider these 5 essential elements when selecting the right rubber for your project: 1. Using the right material: Elastomers are classified and categorized by various physical properties. It is important to check and match the beneficial properties of each elastomer against the work conditions and requirements of your application. 2️. Evaluation of chemical compatibility: Match your rubber to the application environment. Our experts recommend chemical-resistant materials. Consult with us for tailored solutions: https://lnkd.in/d985w5uR 3️. General Properties of Elastomers: Compression Set, Hardness, Tensile Strength and Elongation are important factors to consider 4️. Observe the permissible tolerances: Account for shrinkage variations in elastomers. Early guidance from our technical experts ensures an optimum solution for your application. 5️. Review the geometry to avoid stress/strain: Simplify your design for smooth production. Complex geometries may reduce durability. This also has an impact on the cost of production. 𝐑𝐮𝐛𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 Let's take a closer look at a fundamental Production process in our Compression molding: Extrusion. What it is? It is a process that allows rubber materials to be transformed into a smaller product with a specific shape. How does it work? It involves using an extrusion machine to force raw compounded material through a shaped die using heat and a high level of pressure. In this way it is possible for us to obtain a very easily malleable rubber part which is then put in another mold and vulcanized in Compression machines to fix all the mechanical properties and harden it into the desired product. What are the benefits of extruding? 1. The finished parts are highly resistant to chemicals, heat, cold, aging, fatigue, friction, abrasion wear and tear and therefore ideal for use in a myriad of harsh or extreme conditions. Moreover, extruded rubber products are flexible, extremely durable and long-lasting. 2. The process is more efficient in terms of reduced waste volumes hence more economical. Marketing Director for PSI Urethanes, Inc | Custom Thermoset Polyurethane for OEM's, Clean Room Facilities, Metal and Hydraulic Presses, Food Industry |PSI Urethanes, Inc.
John Estrada breaks down some info regarding urethane compression and deflection. Want to know more about thermoset polyurethane? Dive into the science behind polyurethane compression and deflection! 💡 Polyurethane, unlike rubber, is a non-compressible elastomer, meaning its volume will not change. In other words, if you squeeze it in one place, it will bulge the same amount in another place. For that reason, it makes an excellent material for load-bearing applications. In load-bearing applications such as isolation pads, bumpers, bushings, rollers and wheels, it is important to know the amount of deflection the part will have when under load.
