A life without plastics is hard to imagine. Since the late 20th century we heavily depend on these versatile materials which are mainly derived from fossil resources 🛢 After fulfilling its purpose, PET which is used in packaging and polyester fibers often ends in incineration due to a lack of environmentally friendly options. #wastemanagement #incineration #plasticwaste

❓Do #biodegradable plastics contaminate mechanical recycling streams? 💡Numerous studies have proven that sorting of compostable plastics is effective and that after sorting, the contamination rate in an established recycling stream is usually very low (below 1%). Should #compostable plastics, alongside other impurities, enter the #recycling streams of, for example, PE or PET, no negative impacts are to be expected. 🌱Labelling is crucial, and all compostable plastic products should display clear labelling to avoid misthrows and to ensure separate collection in the dedicated waste stream. 🔗Learn more about #bioplastics myths at https://lnkd.in/eYDBu8nN

Most recyclable plastics aren't really recyclable, or they are only truly recyclable if they're returned to a few, select facilities, leaving the plastics in Earth. If they break down, they leave microplastics in the environment. But... Bio-comsumable bio-resins that we use in our limited-use products get completely eliminated, leaving no plastics downstream at all. This groundbreaking technology allows naturally occurring bacteria to break down the polymerized starches, taking all microplastics with them. By using disposed plastics to feed the earth, we actively contribute to reducing the amount of plastic waste in landfills. https://lnkd.in/gi_xnGrw #plastics #plasticsindustry #manufacturing #fabrication #madeinusa #montana

#DYK that European plastics production from non fossil circular sources reach 20% vs total production climbing +4% vs previous year levels? This was mostly driving by growth of mechanical recycling plastics use. Industry keeps moving to produce more sustainable and #circular #plastics. One of the outcomes of plastic molding technology is the environmental impact of plastic waste. To address this issue, there has been an interest developing bioplastics and using recycled materials. Bioplastics are plastics that are derived from renewable sources, such as plants, algae, or bacteria, or that can be biodegraded by microorganisms. Recycled materials, on the other hand, include plastics that have been collected, sorted, cleaned, and processed into new products, reducing the need for virgin materials and the amount of waste. These alternatives help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save energy, water, and landfill space, etc! #Trivia #DidYouKnow #InjectionMolding #InjectionMoldingFacts #Plastics #PlasticIndustry #PlasticIndustryFacts #PlasticTrivia

🍀 While industries seek to use more post-consumer #recycled plastics, they largely fall short in quality in comparison to #virgin plastics, produced using natural gas or crude oil, and does not contain any recycled materials. This creates an obstacle to reducing #fossilfuel extraction in the global use of plastics. 💫 Virgin-grade plastics, which the RePolyWise process will produce, has a molecular structure as sturdy as virgin plastics made from fossil fuels, having cut down plastics back into their composing parts. This means it can withstand higher temperatures and pressures, and be adopted into wider use than usual recycled plastics, powering the #circulareconomy.

Did you know that 91% of #plastics globally are not recycled and 8 million tonnes of plastic enter our oceans annually? With the cost of replacing plastics estimated to cost >$394 billion in consumer goods alone, how can industry solve the problem of branded packaging becoming plastic litter in the open environment? Introducing our d2w technology. d2w makes standard plastics #biodegradable, pre-programming plastics with a safe and sustainable "self-destruct" in case they escape into the environment as litter or plastic waste. Our cost effective proven #biodegradablepackaging solution works on both land in the oceans, converting plastic into water, CO2 and biomass. Are you interested in a brand protection solution that ensures that your packaging is removed from the environment if it escapes as plastic litter? "Sustainable plastics offer an alternative and are emerging as game-changers. However, many misconceptions cloud the potential of sustainable plastics." It's near impossible to imagine a world without #plastic. But fossil-based polymers pollute the #environment and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainable plastics offer an alternative, but persistent misconceptions are a stumbling block for their full adoption. We unpack these misconceptions, using examples from Plastrans Technologies GmbH, BioLogiQ Inc. and CO2BioClean GmbH to highlight how sustainable plastics can play a role in the #circulareconomy and #greentransition. 📈 The demand for recycled content in products and packaging is growing. Advanced mechanical recycling is an energy-efficient method of processing post-consumer plastic waste and creating recyclates with virgin-like quality. Recently, researchers have found that the chemical recycling process uses more energy and has a worse environmental impact than primary production.* 🤯 In the United States, 24 states have now passed bills to reclassify chemical recycling as manufacturing. Thanks to our extensive collaboration with stakeholders across the plastics value chain, advanced mechanical recycling is a field-proven approach to produce high-quality recycled plastics. #PlasticRecycling #AdvancedRecycling #RecycledContent Source: Technical, Economic, and Environmental Comparison of Closed-Loop Recycling Technologies for Common Plastics.
