♻️🙏 Rest in peace, plastics. 🌊 It's not just the visible pollution we need to worry about; our oceans are becoming a graveyard for plastic waste. Recent research estimates that up to 11 million metric tons of plastic pollution rests on the ocean floor, becoming a reservoir of environmental harm. This accumulation includes larger items like nets and bags, not just microplastics. Even more alarming, a garbage truck's worth of plastic enters the ocean every single minute! 🚛🌊 This isn't just about litter; it's about our health and the health of our planet. Marine organisms ingest this waste, which then enters our food chain, exposing us to harmful chemicals and toxins. We're facing a crisis where plastic pollution threatens wildlife and ecosystems, and ultimately, human health. But there's hope. By collectively reducing plastic use, supporting plastic-free initiatives, and investing in sustainable alternatives, we can turn the tide on ocean plastics. Let's act now before it's too late. #SaveOurOceans 🌊♻️ #Sustainability #wastemanagement #environmentalprotection #marvinTechAdvocate I am Mar Vin Foo 🌿, a specialized consultant in energy, both upstream and downstream with a focus on AI. Over the weekend, I came up with a topic to present at the office today for #kss to join the rest of the world in celebrating #worldenvironmentday It was all about the theme for this year, which is #solutionstoplasticpollution with easy steps that everyone can take to cut down plastic waste. Plastic is a valuable material that is used to make up the bulk of the items we use in our daily life. However, in today’s world, mismanagement, improper handling, and abuse of plastics have resulted in MPs pollution in the aquatic environment. Scientists have now found microplastics in seafood, human blood, and lungs. This could lead to several chronic illnesses, posing a threat to human life. It will take all of us in society to #beatplasticpollution Don’t forget to 👉Be the Solution and not the Pollution Did you check the slide with the 7 easy ways to reduce plastic waste? What else do you think we can add to it?

Plastic pollution is out of control, and yet plastic production is set to more than double by 2050. Plastic has been found in human blood, heart tissue, placental tissue, and lung tissue, as well as pretty much everywhere on the planet including rain, beer, bottled water, etc. This is certainly one of the issues I am most passionate about, so I planned this event for tomorrow at our excellent public library! "Join local experts for a panel discussion on plastic pollution and what you can do about it. Cedar Walters, Climate Officer at WCI, will cover plastic production and its connection to pollution and climate change; Ibrahim Khan, MD at LRHC will talk about potential impacts of plastic on human health; and Clancy Oliphant, Public Information and Education Officer for Otter Tail County Solid Waste will share information on what plastics can and cannot be recycled, and how to reduce waste." #breakupwithplastic #plasticpollution #climateaction #plasticfreejuly

THE UBIQUITY OF PLASTIC DID YOU KNOW? The durability of plastic, once seen as a boon, has become our greatest curse, leading to an environmental crisis that spans generation. Micro plastics, tiny fragments of plastic debris, contaminate our water sources, soil, and even the air we breathe. This pervasive pollution not only endangers marine life, with countless animals ingesting or becoming entangled in plastic waste, but also poses significant risks to human health. Despite growing awareness and initiatives to curb plastic use, the sheer scale of production and waste raises questions about the impact of the sustainable alternatives. It is high time that we act upon our responsibility as a society and help reduce plastic waste, by successfully making use of the alternative uses. #saveourplanetfromplastic #reduceplasticwaste United Nations #savetheplanet #saveearth

Microplastics, comprising minuscule plastic pieces less than 5 millimeters in size, are pervasive in our environment, from our oceans to everyday products like table salt. Due to their minuscule size, microplastics are easily ingested and transferred through the food chain, persisting in the environment as they resist biodegradation and pose significant hazards for humans and the environment. Microplastics can enter marine organisms and humans through sewage-treatment processes or oceanic contamination, potentially leading to organ abnormalities, malnutrition, inflammation, reduced fertility and increased mortality. So how can we combat plastic pollution? With a comprehensive strategy that includes raising awareness through education and campaigns, investing in robust waste management infrastructure, enforcing plastic bans with stricter penalties and conducting research to understand the impact of microplastics on human and environmental health. This World Earth Day, let’s unite in our commitment to combat microplastic pollution and safeguard our planet for future generations. #Healthium #HealthiumMedtech #HealthiumMedtechLtd #Medtech #MedicalDevice #MedicalDevices #WorldEarthDay #PlanetvsPlastics #Microplastics #Microplastic #MicroplasticPollution #EnvironmentalHealth #Sustainability #Recycle #ReducePlastic #WasteManagement #EarthDay2024 #PublicHealth #GlobalHealth

It's (the most important ever) Plastic Free July! We need to do this for the future. When I started this back in 2011 I was concerned about my personal consumption and role in creating plastic waste and along my journey have learnt and seen firsthand the plastic pollution problem. Now more than ever, I'm motivated to make change for future generations. We know plastic is everywhere, we know despite our best efforts the problem is growing and we know that it's impacts not only affect the environment but disproportionately damage vulnerable populations. According to the Minderoo-Monaco Commission on Plastics and Human Health, the harm to human health includes disease, disability and premature death. We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to influence a strong global treaty to end plastic pollution. Let's do this now and leave behind (forward) a cleaner future. https://lnkd.in/gFVVpjqr #PlasticFreePledge #PlasticFreeJuly #EndPlasticPollution

The production, use and disposal of plastics products have led to widespread contamination of the environment, particularly in oceans and waterways. Plastics do not biodegrade easily; instead they break down into smaller pieces known as microplastics that persist in the environment for hundreds of years. This has severe consequences, including harm to marine life, contamination of the food chain, pollution of soil and water, and significant economic impacts. The plastic pollution crisis demands immediate action. Let's work together to reduce plastic waste, promote sustainability, and create a cleaner future for all. #Pavingtheroadtosustainaiblity
