If this was recreated using the largest micro SDXC cards today you would need 10 stacks of paper, each as tall as Mt Everest. If you crammed micro SDXC cards into a volume the physical size of a CD-ROM you would need 10 stacks of paper each extending to the orbit of the ISS. Exponentials are amazing... Now, the question is - are we on an exponential curve with AI capability? Remember the early days of an exponential curve may be able to be measured as exponential by sensors and math, but they don't "feel" exponential to us humans. And if we are on such a curve, what does my comparison above suggest about the track of resource requirements needed to underpin/power the coming decades of growth?

Bill Gates recently shared a picture showcasing how Microsoft visually represented the massive amount of data that can be stored on a single CD-ROM. While impressive, at Kaiterra, we're dealing with an entirely different scale of data – and it's not something that can be easily visualized. Many believe that installing an Indoor Air Quality monitor on the wall is sufficient, but the real challenge lies in analysing the staggering amounts of data generated by these devices. To put things into perspective, let me share a real-life example. We have a client with over 1,000 units installed across five pilot buildings. That's a mind-boggling 16 million data points generated daily and 6 billion data points per year! If you were to print out those 6 billion rows, the stack of paper would be taller than Mount Everest! Trying to make sense of such a massive volume of data manually is an insurmountable task. This is where advanced dashboards and data analytics come into play. By crunching all that data, interpreting it, and making sense of it, we can provide actionable insights to truly improve indoor air quality. While procuring and installing an IAQ monitor is a straightforward task, interpreting and making sense of the data it generates is the real challenge.
