Carbon Dioxide Removal (#CDR): Europe's Path to a Trillion-Euro Industry 🌍 Today’s article in the Handelsblatt addresses this question by highlighting our newest study “Carbon Dioxide Removal: Europe and Germany's Role in Catalyzing a Trillion-Euro Industry” by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Deutscher Verband für negative Emissionen e.V. (DVNE): https://lnkd.in/dARrNWYG While we as a society urgently and drastically need to reduce our greenhouse gas (#GHG) emissions, reduction measures alone will not suffice. With the potential to become a trillion-euro global industry, #CDR is a vital complement for climate change mitigation and for reaching the Paris Agreement's stipulated targets. By neutralizing emissions and preventing them from contributing to #GlobalWarming, CDR paves the way to a #NetZero emissions future. In our study, we highlight how climate change mitigation and economic growth can go hand in hand … 🌿 Key Role for Climate Goals: Neutralizing residual emissions from hard-to-abate sectors. 📈 Economic Boom: €470-940B global economic potential annually by 2050 – at par with today’s global airline industry. 👷♂️ Job Potential: Up to 670K (190K) jobs for European (German) companies. … and what needs to be done to make CDR’s potential a reality ⛔ Roadblocks: 5 key hurdles prevent rapid uptake of CDR. 🏃♂️ Action plan: Policymakers, CDR industry, CDR certificate buyers, and investors must collectively embrace 15 measures. Check our 📱 website for interactive navigation and access to the full report (EN & DE): https://lnkd.in/d6NfeqXV It was a pleasure collaborating with DVNE and multiple dedicated member companies in our endeavor to establish CDR as a recognized cornerstone of #ClimateStrategy. Special thanks go out to my author team Dr. Patrick Herhold, Dr. Johanna Puetz, Karan Mistry, PhD, Phillip Spiekermann and Louisa Maier - thank you for the great teaming over the past weeks. 🙏

Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR): Europe’s Path to climate protection AND economic growth 🌎↗ It’s been a pleasure to work with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Deutscher Verband für negative Emissionen e.V. (DVNE) on their most recent study that explores the transformative impact #CDR has on achieving climate goals while fostering economic growth. Our key takeaways: 🌿 Climate goals: In addition to significant reduction measures across all economic sectors, CDR is essential to keep the ambition of the Paris Agreement within reach by neutralizing emissions from hard-to-abate sectors like cement, energy, steel, or chemicals alongside historical emissions that are still contributing to global warming. 📈 Economic boom: The CDR market could reach €470-940B annually by 2050 – this is at par with today’s global airline industry. Europe's (Germany's) CDR industry could reach €220B (€70B) per year by then, driven by technological advancements and economies of scale. 👷♂️ Job potential: The European (German) CDR industry could create up to 670K (190K) jobs. 🌍 Europe leads the way: With its tech expertise and climate policies, Europe, especially Germany, is set to have a significant impact on this market. However, bold actions from policymakers, the CDR industry, buyers, and investors are necessary to unlock CDR’s full potential. 🌍 Urgent Call from todays #UN Emission report🚨- we need global legislative commitment also to have fair competitive advantages between the countries 🤝 The latest UN Emissions Gap Report serves as a stark reminder: we're not moving fast enough. The more advanced nations must lead the way, but it's crucial to ensure fair competitive advantages for industries. 🌱 According to Antònio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, achieving the 1.5-degree limit requires uprooting the poisoned root of the climate crisis—fossil fuels—and demands a just, equitable transition to renewables. 🍃 This wake-up call extends beyond individual nations; it's a global imperative. The report highlights the need for nations to surpass current Paris pledges to avoid a 2.5-2.9°C temperature rise. We must commit globally, akin to the dedication seen in the EU. 🌐💪 While Europe can't solve this issue alone, we can be a role model and a front runner—innovating new ways to tackle climate change. Let's push for a sustainable and circular future together. 🌏💚 —————————————————————————————————————— 🔔Follow or connect with me 🙋♀️ to stay informed and inspired on | #Sustainability | #ESG | #Leadership | #Communication | 🤝🏼 Read the full report here: Emissions Gap Report 2023 #ClimateAction #EmissionsGap #Sustainability #GlobalCommitment 🌎✨
