The paper #experimentally demonstrates OR and NOT gates on a 1T1R crossbar array. Additionally, it provides insights into the #energy #distribution for performing these operations at different stages. Experiments across different gates show that energy consumption is dominated by initialization in the MAGIC design style. The energy split-up is 14.8%, 85%, and 0.2% for execution, initialization, and read operations, respectively. "Researchers at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have developed a fully indigenous gallium nitride (GaN) power switch that can have potential applications in systems like power converters for electric vehicles and laptops, as well as in wireless communications. The entire process of building the switch—from material growth to device fabrication to packaging—was developed in-house at the Center for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE), IISc. Due to their high performance and efficiency, GaN transistors are poised to replace traditional silicon-based transistors as the building blocks in many electronic devices, such as ultrafast chargers for electric vehicles, phones and laptops, as well as space and military applications such as radar." #galliumnitride #powerswitches

International Conference on Sensing Technology (ICST) 2023 will host a tutorial session on 17th December 2023 which would include lecture series from prominent academicians from around the globe. The tutorial will also include a hands-on session and lab visits to get a complete flavour of theory and practical for sensor fabrication, characterization, integration and applications.   The tutorial speakers details are given below:   1. Further, sensor measurement will be demonstrated with all important figure of merits calculations for sensors. The hands-on experience will give exposure to equipment such as CVD, PVD, Electrical Characterization, solution processed synthesis of materials and finally the integration of sensor to the microcontroller for real time applications. Finally, the hands-on session will also include the visit to the cleanroom of BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus which will give more detailed information about technological processes such as photolithography, deposition etc.   ICST 2023 allows for only tutorial registration wherein an individual can register only for tutorial without a research paper submission. Indigenous Semiconductor Industry has a vast potential for India to become a $6 trillion economy and a huge job creator. As per Indian Semiconductor Association (ISA), the Indian semiconductor industry has the potential to create 1.75 to 2 million direct and indirect Jobs by 2025. While government is feverishly trying to establish at least two IC (Integrated Chips) fabrication units by early next year, the major issue is availability of talent pool that should be made available to this wannabe and nascent sector. AICTE is encouraging specific courses on semiconductors and says as many as 16,000 seats have been introduced at diploma, UG and PG levels. I went through the statement of IIT Bombay faculty on the content of such course on semiconductors. Although, it contains right subjects but that would not be sufficient at industry level. It has been our Aichele's heel since the beginning in the absence of industry faced teaching faculty and absence of academy-industry tie ups. Our institutions have introduced subjects like Quantum computer, Cloud Computing, Data mining and AI but who teaches them? The faculties who have never worked on these fields and has only bookish knowledge. In spite of that it is prudent to include subjects for Semiconductor Technology courses that are very important for students to know. These are Chemicals used, Silicon/Germanium/Gallium Arsenide wafer manufacturing technology, lithography equipment, Class-100 room design & equip required, dopant manufacturing equipment, metallization and Ion implantation equipment. I did not see them on the offered course subjects and without knowing about them, passed out students will be akin to having only one eye.

IIT Bombay has partnered with TCS to develop India’s first advanced sensing tool for semiconductor chips, which is expected to reduce the chances of chip failures and improve the efficiency of electronic devices. Over the next two years, TCS experts will collaborate with Kasturi Saha, an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering of IIT-Bombay, to develop the quantum imaging platform in the PQuest Lab. The Quantum Diamond Microchip Imager can image magnetic fields that will enable a non-invasive and non-destructive mapping of semiconductor chips, much like an MRI at a hospital.
