Why Join Dementia Research? Just 1% of people who could take part in clinical trials for dementia research do so. Dementia research has one of the lowest patient uptake rates. Research shows there are more than 944,000 people in the UK who have dementia. It is the UK’s biggest killer and yet current estimates state that there are four cancer researchers for every one dementia researcher. Research offers hope. It can take up to 3 years to recruit enough participants for a dementia clinical trial. Meanwhile, an entire clinical trial in cancer can be completed in 2.3 years. Only through research can we understand what causes dementia diseases, develop effective treatments and improve the care of those living with dementia. But for research to make progress we need more people with and without dementia to take part in vital studies. Join Dementia Research is helping to make a real difference to dementia research. When you sign up to Join Dementia Research, the information you provide is used to match you to studies you may be able to take part in, both online, nationally and in your local area. The service connects registered volunteers with dementia researchers across the UK who are looking for people to join their studies. So who can join? Anyone. - Volunteers - Proffesionals - On behalf of someone else (as a representative) It’s entirely free to join, so the final question is, what’s stopping you? Click here to join https://lnkd.in/ekE5KftG and help fight strengthen our resources in the war against dementia.

My video blog on "Diagnose Alzheimer's Dementia 15 Years ahead of your time ! Act Prudent..." In a groundbreaking development, scientists from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden have introduced a revolutionary blood test for the early detection of Alzheimer's disease. With an impressive 97% accuracy, this non-invasive and cost-effective test focuses on detecting abnormal tau proteins in the blood, which contribute to the destabilization of nerve cells in the brain. Tau tangles, alongside beta-amyloid plaques, are characteristic features of Alzheimer's, hindering cognitive functions. This breakthrough has the potential to transform dementia research, providing a simple yet highly accurate tool for routine screenings, even before symptoms manifest. This innovative blood test not only offers a practical diagnostic solution but also opens avenues for early intervention and treatment. By allowing researchers to explore potential therapies before symptoms become apparent, the test could significantly impact Alzheimer's research. Recent advancements also enable the measurement of tau and beta-amyloid levels in living individuals, providing insights into the complex interactions https://lnkd.in/eHEiqpZs between these proteins and other contributing factors to the disease. Beyond diagnosis, the blood test presents an opportunity to streamline the diagnostic process and reduce the need for invasive follow-up tests by up to 80%, potentially revolutionizing how Alzheimer's is diagnosed and treated in the future. The implications of this breakthrough extend beyond the laboratory, as the hope is that this blood test will become a standard diagnostic tool administered by general practitioners. With the potential to transform the landscape of Alzheimer's diagnosis and treatment, this breakthrough brings us closer to a future where routine screenings for individuals over 50 become as commonplace as other preventive health measures. As we stand on the cusp of this transformative moment in Alzheimer's research, the promise of streamlined diagnostics and early intervention offers hope for improved outcomes for those affected by this pervasive and challenging condition.

These two drugs are a huge step in the right direction, but a clear example of how much more needs to be done. Repurposing drugs, and developing cheaper and more accessible diagnostics are just two examples of this.
