3 weeks tomorrow, all of the hard work of the past few months will be coming to its conclusion as I head to the start line of the AJ Bell #GreatNorthRun in Newcastle. I've never run a half marathon before, but I've been working on my endurance for the past few months - all that pain will hopefully see me over the line!
Getting to my point, though: I need your money. Yes, you. Not that guy over there in the hat. I need your money for post-race HARIBO Germany sweets.
Ok, so I'm going to have the sweets anyways. I really need you to click the link below, maybe read the story (and check out some of the training runs through Strava) about why I'm doing this, and then put your hand in your pocket and make a donation. Rather than try to (badly) summarise what Alzheimer's Society do, let me steal some copy from their website. After all, genius steals (as the late, great Oscar Wilde sadly never said).
"At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future.
As a Society, we are made up of people with dementia, carers, trusted experts, campaigners, researchers and clinicians. We are the UK’s largest collective force of people with unparalleled knowledge and over 40 years of experience addressing the biggest challenges facing people living with dementia.
Dementia is the biggest health and social challenge of our time. There are currently estimated to be 900,000 people in the UK with dementia. Many are undiagnosed and facing the realities of their condition alone. As a Society, and with the help of our supporters, we’re changing that.
With your help we can give vital support to those who need it most, hold decision-makers to account, and fund groundbreaking research to transform the future for everyone living with dementia."
Please, if you can, make a donation today. Don't put it off until tomorrow, when you'll forget (if you're anything like me).
Thank you for reading this far. If I might ask one more favour? If you could share this message with your network, and make it go as far as possible, it'd really help the team to make the impact that they need. Thank you again.
