Thank you Nasdaq team for your partnership for the past three years! In our blog post celebrating the first anniversary with Nasdaq, we wanted to make progress on the following areas: ▶ Geographic growth: CORCs have been issued to suppliers on all permanently inhabited continents. Suppliers in our funnel come from 72 countries. ▶ New methodologies: Since then we have added world's first ERW methodology and updated existing methodologies biannually. Also, now working on the Ocean CDR space. ▶ New and stronger partnerships: New types of intermediaries are entering the market. At the moment there are more than 40 active sales channels and many other types of partners as listed in: https://lnkd.in/gXiHawhi ▶ Keep enabling advance commitments: Here we have taken a more of a arms-length approach that is more suited to a carbon crediting program, but are working towards an approach where a corporation can claim they are on a #pathway to #netzero IF they can prove they are lowering their emissions ambitiously AND have committed to an #OxfordOffsettingPrinciples aligned portfolio for a significant number of years (tbd). Again, let's keep on transforming world's economy to reward for carbon removals! Recently, I had the honor of engaging in dialogue with IDX Carbon, a leading platform specializing in carbon credits and environmental asset trading. As the global community intensifies its focus on climate action, the steel sector is one of the critical industries that needs to implement transformative strategies balancing economic growth with environmental management. Our discussion explored the relationship between market mechanisms and regulatory frameworks, revealing promising opportunities to leverage carbon trading to catalyze sustainable practices in the steel industry. To fight the climate crisis, industries are required to reduce the emissions they produce. Some companies may be able to reduce emissions more than others, giving rise to a market where companies with excess carbon credits can sell them to those needing to offset their emissions. IDX Carbon facilitates transparent and efficient carbon credit trading, providing a strong foundation for the industry to meet regulatory requirements and achieve sustainability goals. This discussion with IDX Carbon underscores our shared commitment to driving positive change and fostering a more sustainable future for the steel sector and beyond.

Today we hosted the Virtual Conference "The EU's Carbon management and the path to 2040". Thank you to all who joined us, and to our panellists. Here are the key takeaways from our speakers: 🔸Ruud Kempener from European Commission: "After 2040, the use of fossil fuels will be very very limited. What we need carbon capture for is to capture all remaining process emissions. We have to ensure negative emissions and that whatever residual emissions still there are compensated." 🔸Ragnar Semundseth from Mission of Norway to the EU: "We are establishing a full scale value chain at the moment in Norway, which will consist of capturing CO2 exactly from cement factory storage on the Norwegian continental shelf. This infrastructure is built to take on large volumes of CO2 also from the rest of Europe." 🔸Claire Curry from BloombergNEF: "Industry is responsible for 24% of the world's CO2 emissions. Carbon capture is one of the main routes we currently have to decarbonise industry, so the scaling of carbon capture is essential if we are to reach net-zero emissions." 🔸Myles Allen from Oxford Net Zero: "The technology has been working for decades, I think the problem has always been that we have yet to develop a robust business model of CCUS that actually allows industry to invest against it." 🔸Cédric de Meeûs from Holcim: "We highly welcome what the Commission has been doing, because this ecosystem requires a fair, competitive and a dynamic policy framework that really works as an enabler for this full value chain to develop and eventually flourish." 🔸Maria João Duarte from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries: "Carbon capture is a mature, commercially available solution that has great potential to resolve CO2 emissions from hard-to-abate industries. 🎤During our latest webinar, Georgia Berry, UK and European policy lead at leading carbon market platform Patch highlighted the role of the SBTi, which she hopes will provide further clarity on its guidance to companies seeking to secure validation for their net zero emissions targets. At present, the SBTi advises companies should decarbonise 90 to 95% of their direct and value chain emissions by 2050, only leaving scope for harnessing carbon credits to mop up the remaining hard to abate five to 10%. For the past few years, I have not favoured most carbon credit schemes. I have certainly been against those which incorporate in one's carbon footprint the emissions of others from developing countries. Buying tonnes of CO2 from cookstove replacement is a nonsense that is now finally recognized by studies: "Nine in 10 of the 96mn so-called cookstove credits certified by leading carbon registries do not avoid the emissions" The concept is straightforward: By investing in 'eco-friendlier cookstoves' for people in developing countries, I can offset my own emissions through the reduction in greenhouse gases emitted by these stoves compared to traditional ones. Getting to carbon neutrality is a desirable objective often leading firms to favour easy shortcuts to meet unrealistic timing and ambitions.
