I have yet to come across so called Results Based Management guidance (in whatever form) that defines or explains Management. What is usually described is Results Based Monitoring. Show me guidance that provides a meaningful defintion or explanation of management and I'll buy you lunch. Show me actual functional "results based management" in a government or "development" organisation and I'll throw in champagne with lunch. I made this wager across my rather extensive network over twenty years ago and nobody has come up with a real live case. Could it all be fiction? And since you asked: management is a function that resources and organises processes to create value. Cheers!

Just wrapped up an insightful workshop hosted by Yayasan Khazanah on policy designing by Encik Nurhisham Hussein from EPF Malaysia 📃 Here are my key takeaways: 1. Simplicity in Design, Complexity in Execution I've come to appreciate that policies need to strike a balance. While they should be simple and practical in their essence, the real challenge lies in the detailed and often complex implementation strategies that support them. It's all about ensuring that the policy's intent translates effectively into action. 2. The Art of Stakeholder Management This workshop taught me the general thought-process of policy-designing, revealing the intricate dance of stakeholder interests. It's clear that it's practically impossible to satisfy every stakeholder completely. Understanding their perspectives and finding Pareto-efficiency becomes paramount to designing effective policies. 3. Power of Real People Stories One invaluable lesson I took away is the impact of real-time stories on policy communication. Through asking policy beneficiaries how a certain policy affects them directly, we can gather authentic narratives that make policies relatable and convincing. These stories are like bridges that connect policy concepts with human experiences, ensuring broader understanding and support. Grateful for the enriching insights gained during this workshop! Excited to apply these lessons in my research. Looking forward to the following sessions.
