Last week I tuned into PropTech Connect’s “From Cost to Opportunity - How to act on the decarbonisation business case” webinar 👩🏼💻. It was a great discussion with a focus on meeting ESG goals by improving existing assets. One of the points Nuno Brito e Cunha made stood out: “When you buy an asset, you’re buying the future, you’re not buying its history”. Retrofitting spaces protects the value of your assets and is generally considered a far more sustainable approach to development 🏢. As outlined in London Infrastructure 2050, “London has some of the oldest and most energy-inefficient building stock in Europe and it is expected that 80% of these buildings will still be standing in 2050”.
