Football and Consulting have nothing in common... Or do they? ⚽️👩💻
At last week's Südwestmetall event in Stuttgart, the presentation by FIFA referee, Dr. Felix Brych, stood out. Despite our fields being worlds apart, his insights resonated with me. Here are my 3️⃣ takeaways:
1️⃣ "Partners on the Field": Just as in football, consultants often meet with individuals who hold more public and senior positions. Yet, for the success of the game or the project, it's essential to engage as equals.
2️⃣ "Courage to Move Forward": Stepping onto the field is no easy task for a referee. At this point, there's no turning back. Similarly, in crucial client meetings, the greatest value comes from having the courage to openly address sensitive topics, like challenges and risks.
3️⃣"Focus Brings Structure. Structure Brings Security. (…)": To make the right decisions, a referee needs 150% focus, tuning out distractions. Similarly, as a consultant, this focus is vital to avoid getting lost in analysis paralysis and concept work and instead deliver true client value.
Additionally, this event reaffirmed the importance of conversation and exchanging diverse perspectives. My thanks to Südwestmetall for connecting so many interesting people (Jens Schmitz Bernd Stockmann David Toczek @Bernd Hahn & others). And of course, thanks to Cem Özdemir, Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, for your speech... and our selfie! 😉
