KPMG just shared a very interesting report here. It is a survey done among Norwegian CPOs, and here are my main takeaways: 🛰 Procurement is investing in procuretech finally! "75% of the CPOs were in process of sourcing or implementing new, mostly cloud-based procuretech. I believe this is an important indicator on what procurement in general will be doing the next few years. 🌍 Sustainability requirement (ESG) in the supply chain has become the new "normal". Building capabilities in this space will be crucial, and it is only logical that investing in procuretech also means investing in ESG (or at least, that is how it should be now) ⭐ Because procurement now can demonstrate a clear value when it comes to handling risk like inflation, high energy prices, supply chain disruptions and now also ESG, Procurement has gained more attention with corporate management. Great! This is all great news! And to you who is wondering if procurement is a possible career, just look at what Liv Longva is quoted to say: "We have to make people realize that procurement is a super exciting subject. Participated in panel discussion on October 12th at Holiday Inn, Andheri organised by Gain Skills. Topic of discussion was " Driving Efficiencies and Maximizing Value : Strategies for Managing Costs and Optimising ROI". Discussed about Evolution of procurement function over time, various aspects of cost efficiencies and ways to achieve them, usage of technology in procurement, sustainable procurement, role of global sourcing in driving cost efficiency and upscaling of procurement professionals in evolving scenario. My take away from the session; 1) Procurement has evolved from a mere commercial function to a more strategic function. 2) Vendors are business partner than a mere external entity. 3) For any value maximization activity, vendors can be of great help, given their expertise in their products/ services. 4) Usage of technology at appropriate places can be crux of cost efficiencies. 5)One of the important aspects, apart from the technology, is the human resource. Equipping them with appropriate and adequate tools as well as suitable reward can be a game changer for the organisation.
