Traditional trade is a vital part of Mexico's economy, and remains a dominant force in Mexico’s mass consumption, despite the rise of modern retail and e-commerce. Encompassing small neighborhood stores, local markets, and street vendors, this channel reaches nearly 100% of the population, employs two million people, and accounts for 40% of the retail industry's value. In our latest blog post, which first appeared as an article on ExpansionMx, we share why it is important for brands to prioritize this channel to achieve market success, leveraging rapid, store-level data for strategic decisions: https://bit.ly/3WquhLT

Have you ever considered the health costs of poor food safety? We reflect on our recent efforts in USAID’s Feed the Future Business Drivers for Food Safety (BD4FS) project in Senegal to reduce food contamination, mitigate pre-consumer food loss, and strengthen the overall food system. BD4FS asked Premise Contributors to map and report on the conditions at seafood landing sites, processing sites, and points of sale focusing on food safety and quality. Over 1,000 observations were collected, providing a detailed picture of conditions from fishing boats to households. Equipped with local insights, BD4FS can now design targeted interventions and further research, addressing specific gaps in the seafood value chain while Premise Contributors who directly observed food practices in markets became more sensitive to food safety issues around them. That is a strong win-win! Learn more about social and behavioral changes that were made possible in this project: https://bit.ly/3VADlNK
