Happy 4th of July! The day we celebrate our freedoms and our independence! In 1776, America was created as a nation because of an idea! An idea that allowed for a future of freedoms of all people (even if it didn’t begin that way). An idea that allows for elected government and elected officials and leaders; of the people, by the people , and for the people . An idea of a President elected opposed to a leader via birthline, or conquering via force. These leaders we elect, must always preserve our freedoms as Americans , and nurture and build our relationships with other nations that support and promote freedoms in their cultures . There’s a big difference between nationalism and patriotism. Patriotism is the feeling of love ❤️ of one’s country with a stronger focus on the positives within our culture, history, and alliances. Nationalism has more negative connotations with focus on separation of one’s culture and country from others. As we celebrate our independence today, we can also honor our history (lessons learned) and note our present historical significance in the world with our allies. #AUKUS #SIB #NATO For there’s more nations in this world that are ruled under severe oppressive leaders than not. With freedom comes great responsibilities, none more important than preserving peace, liberty, and friendship. This is an everyone and every party issue! #AUKUS supports liberty and independence from dictatorships that seek to take liberties away from others. Our country needs to recognize the fragility and the strength of the freedoms we hold dear, and stand together to protect them.

🇺🇸 Reflecting on History: The Birth of American Independence 🇺🇸 As we celebrate Independence Day, it's crucial to remember the arduous journey that led to the birth of the United States of America. Prior to July 4, 1776, America was a collection of British colonies, subject to the rule of the British Empire. The quest for freedom was not easy; it required fierce determination and sacrifice. The American Revolution, ignited in 1775 and concluded with a peace treaty in 1783, was a watershed moment. Thirteen North American colonies rose in defiance against British control, seeking political independence and the right to self-governance. This struggle was born from years of mounting tensions fueled by British policies that increasingly restricted colonial autonomy. Today, as we enjoy the freedoms secured by our forefathers, let's honor their courage and resilience. The United States stands as a testament to the enduring values of liberty, democracy, and self-determination. May we continue to cherish and protect these principles, ensuring that the sacrifices of the past continue to inspire and guide us toward a brighter future. Professional Historian of American History, DEN Star Educator with Discovery Education, 2022 Westside High School Teacher of the Year and 2022 Gilder Lehrman US History Teacher of the year for the State of Florida
On this day in 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, a powerful document that proclaimed the American colonies' separation from Great Britain. Authored mainly by Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration asserted that all men are created equal and endowed with unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The Declaration cited specific grievances against the British Crown, detailing why the colonies were rebelling. Key issues included unjust taxation without representation, the imposition of laws without colonial consent, and the restriction of trade. These grievances highlighted the colonies' desire for self-governance and fair treatment. The signers of the Declaration knew the stakes were incredibly high. By putting their names on this document, they committed an act of treason against the British Crown, risking their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. Had the colonies lost the Revolutionary War, these brave individuals would have faced execution, imprisonment, or financial ruin. The Declaration of Independence represents more than just the birth of a nation; it embodies the enduring ideals of freedom, equality, and self-determination. Today, as we celebrate the 4th of July, let's remember the courage and sacrifices of those who paved the way for our liberty. Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸📝 #DeclarationOfIndependence #History #FourthOfJuly #Freedom #Liberty

I am excited to share my latest piece on Verfassungsblog.de: "Legitimizing Heresy Through Law: Bleiburg, Ustasha, and Croatia’s WWII Narrative." In this piece, I explore how legal frameworks have been used to shape and legitimize contentious historical narratives in Croatia. Specifically, I focus on the complex and often controversial narratives surrounding WWII, the Ustasha regime and the events at Bleiburg. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dby8Cn8S #Memory #WWII #Croatia #Bleiburg #Ustasha #LegalStudies #HistoricalNarrative

Happy 248th Independence Day to these United States of America! The Declaration of Independence was approved by twelve of the thirteen original American colonies (New York abstained) on July 2, 1776. It was written by 32-year-old Thomas Jefferson. On July 4, 1776, at end of the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, representatives from the 13 colonies adopted the Jeffersonian Declaration — making July 4 the official day of America's independence. It was later signed on different dates by 56 men (ranging in age from 26 to 70) from the thirteen original colonies. The Kingdom of Morocco became the first country to recognise America's independence in 1777, and France, arguably America’s oldest ally because of its role in the American Revolution, followed suit in 1778. The American Revolution had started just over a year (April 1775) when the Declaration of Independence was signed. With determination, patriotism, and help from a few European and other allies, the new nation was able to defeat King George III and the mighty British military. Like many former colonies, the U.S. has dealt with many internal and external affairs — with some of those wranglings even bringing the “city on a hill” in the dark valley of despair. Though absolutely imperfect like every nation on earth, it’s a wonderment to its mother across the pond, and an example to its siblings and peers. The U.S. is a federal secular constitutional republic—it’s neither a Christian nation nor a democracy. Happy 248th Independence Day, America! #history #globalevents #ushistory #americanhistory #europe #britain #northamerica #independenceday #4thofjuly #usa #unitedstates

Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery. The holiday's name is a portmanteau of the words "June" and "nineteenth", as it was on June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War. We wish you a happy and safe Fourth of July! Independence Day, known colloquially as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States which commemorates the ratification of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America. The Founding Father delegates of the Second Continental Congress declared that the Thirteen Colonies were no longer subject (and subordinate) to the monarch of Britain, King George III, and were now united, free, and independent states. The Congress voted to approve independence by passing the Lee Resolution on July 2 and adopted the Declaration of Independence two days later, on July 4. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, political speeches, and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Independence Day is the national day of the United States. #iPS #iPSNautech #NautechServices #4thOfJuly #IndependenceDay #FourthofJuly #IndependenceDay #USA #July4th #AmericanHistory #Freedom #Fireworks #Barbecue #FamilyReunion #Celebration #Patriotism #RedWhiteandBlue #America #StarsandStripes #DeclarationofIndependence #FoundingFathers #RevolutionaryWar #Liberty #Unity #ProudAmerican #LandoftheFree #HomeoftheBrave #GodBlessAmerica #UnitedStates #CelebrateAmerica #HistoryInAction

Happy Juneteenth from LETS GO Boys and Girls! This culturally historic holiday marks the official emancipation of slaves following the American Civil War. Although the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 declared all American slaves as free, the doctrine was unable to be enforced in Confederate territories. On June 19th, 1865, Union soldiers marched into Galveston Bay, Texas, and decreed the freeing of the state’s slaves. The holiday became known as "Juneteenth" among the newly freed Texans, and over time has become a celebration of independence, solidarity, and empowerment for African-Americans. Today, take some time to learn about our country’s history, look back on how far we have come, and consider how we, as a collective, can continue to make a difference. #Juneteenth2024
