Last Friday the STL Metro Area gained 25 stronger leaders! Congrats to these participants who spent the last 8-weeks working on becoming stronger versions of themselves. I wasn't sure how to feel about today. I had the opportunity to fill in for a co-worker at a training. The training was for the last company Jon worked for before he died. I was nervous about what emotions it would stir-up going to their office and seeing the logo and construction gear everywhere. Throughout his 8-month battle with leukemia, the team at Alberici was incredibly supportive and flexible as he took time away from work for doctors appointments and treatment. The team was also incredibly supportive after he lost his battle. There are people he worked with who still reach out to check on me. A company that does small things with big impact is one that deserves to be recognized. I left the training feeling a sense of strength and grateful for the opportunity to work with their new team members. The holidays are enjoyable, they are also hard. This was our 3rd holiday season since losing my husband in late 2020 and I now recognize what I need to do to make it through. For me, the weeks leading up to Christmas were the toughest this year and I knew I needed to simplify to take care of myself. That meant slowing down on a few work projects, spending time with only close family and friends and prioritizing rest and fresh air. Taking those steps allowed me to feel more at peace, it also allowed me to ensure we didn't skimp on fun holiday events like seeing Santa. When you reach a tough spot, whatever it may be, slow down and realize what you need to do to take care of yourself. You'll never regret the compassion you give yourself. #holidays #2023 #grief

As I was preparing for a workshop recently I was reminded of Debbie Millman's concept of "busy is a decision". Simply put, she says "We do the things we want to do, period". I've heard the concept in years past and for some reason it really hit home recently. The great news is, I've gotten a chance to reprioritize in a few areas of both my personal and professional life and have really felt that the ability to choose what I focus on causes less stress. This last Monday on Halloween I was able to leave work early for the school Halloween party, make it home in time for trick-or-treating and still get work accomplished. Where in your life can you create clarity to focus on what matters to you? When you figure that out, you'll feel immense satisfaction. #busyisadecision #balance #DCMO #focusonwhatmatters
