[NEWS] APM Terminals Barcelona (@APMT) has ordered 4 battery Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers and 17 hybrid Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers. This contract marks a milestone for both companies, who are showing that straddle carrier operations can reach carbon net zero. APMT Barcelona has turned to Konecranes for low-emission and zero-tailpipe-emission straddle carriers to help them achieve their decarbonization commitments, without compromising productivity and reliability. APMT has ambitious targets to reduce carbon emissions by 70% up to 2030 and achieve net zero by 2040. “We are excited to team up with Konecranes for battery-powered straddle carriers as a big step towards decarbonizing our industry. Having a partner like Konecranes and collaborating in a battery-powered straddle carrier pilot is what we need to reach our net zero goal.” says Jelle Burger from APMT, Program Lead Electrification Pilots. eFREIGHT 2030 members set to accelerate freight decarbonisation The thirteen founding members of a consortium that will help shape the future of zero emission HGVs in the UK have been announced. The eFREIGHT 2030 consortium, part of the UK Government’s Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator Programme funded by the Department for Transport in partnership with Innovate UK, will be led by Voltempo Group. Chairman of the eFREIGHT 2030 consortium and former Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Sir Vince Cable said: “The bringing together of so much operational and technical experience within the eFREIGHT 2030 consortium offers a unique opportunity to decarbonise the road freight transport sector in the coming months and years. Kent’s Europa to run routes on low-carbon fuel for DPD Nederland 🌍👀 Europa Road UK has signed a contract with DPD Netherlands to run new daily line hauls between the UK and Netherlands using cleaner fuel. Its vehicles will run exclusively on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO-100), replacing diesel. The transition comes as the EU and UK announce new targets for the road freight industry, calling for operators to reduce emissions 42 per cent from 2005 levels by 2030. Opened in 2015 close to the Dartford Crossing, Europa Road’s 26,368 sq m transit hub has seen a 15 per cent increase year on year in the volume of European road freight, and a record 40,000 consignments a month pass through the terminal. Stuart McKie, regional manager for Europa Road, explained how the company plans to adopt the use of HVO-100 on DPD movements. How government can work with industry to achieve Victoria’s net-zero emission goal by 2045 is a key focus at Freight Victoria. Knowing that Sweden’s triple helix model has strengthened collaboration between government, industry, and universities – the team at Freight Victoria was keen to learn how we could apply similar engagement practices with our stakeholders across the freight, transport and logistics sector. Today we sat down with decarbonisation expert Fredrik Pehrsson, former Head of Innovation Office at Scania Group in Sweden, as part of our monthly Industry Conversation series. Fredrik has been a leader in the global transport industry for more than 20 years. Throughout our discussion, Fredrick shared great insight into the role stakeholders play in the triple helix and how Sweden’s sustainability and consensus culture has influenced its mission-driven innovation community. Industry Conversations give the team at Freight Victoria within the Department of Transport and Planning the opportunity to gain a broader understanding of how we can better support our stakeholders in delivering on government objectives. Fredrik’s insights around how stakeholders can work together in an active partnership to share knowledge and contribute to national-level transport innovation, automation and decarbonisation was invaluable. We had some great examples from the Lindholmen Science Park and Project E-Charge to reflect on!
