We've contracted 15 dual electric-battery trains (BEMU) for České dráhy, a.s.. The new units, powered either by overhead lines or traction batteries, will be operating on the tracks of the Moravskoslezský kraj. It means that passengers will enjoy more direct connections, and we'll help the environment by reducing carbon emissions on non-electrified tracks. "It's a great success for us, and we're thrilled to be innovating Czech rail transport together with Czech Railways. Have you heard of Candela, the Swedish company behind the high performance hydrofoiling electric boats? If not, go do some research, because these boats are likely coming your way soon. The recreational Candela boat, which you see on the photo below from the Singapore Yachting Festival, is by all means both beautiful and luxurious, and certainly fast too. But what really fired me up was to hear about Candela's venture into public transportation – crafting electric commuter ferries: "Opening up our waterways for fast, zero-emission public transport will revolutionize urban commuting. Candela's P-12 is the world’s first high-speed and long-range electric shuttle ship. Cruising at 20+ knots on computer-controlled hydrofoils, it consumes 80% less energy than conventional ships." Intrigued? Region Stockholm is set to lead globally by piloting these electric hydrofoil passenger ships from Q3 this year. A 3 meter wide #bicycle lane (9.8 feet) - each way! - sounds gloriously spacious. It's sized to accommodate an increase in the number of cyclists. As you can see in this video, it also allows for side by side riding. Too many of Seattle's bike lanes are door zone #sharrows or gutter bike lanes - with no protection, and no futureproofing and capacity for increased usage, or allowing parents to ride side by side with their kiddos. Seattle has had 6 people die on our roads in just the last week. We can no longer afford to be complacent to the growing crisis of road safety. We need brave and visionary #leadership - like Anne Hidalgo, like Valérie Plante, like Matúš Vallo - who will prioritize #climateaction, #safestreets, and #publichealth. The "Your port opens up again" initiative of Port de Barcelona awarded the ESPO award.The European Sea Ports Organization (ESPO) rewards the efforts of European ports to improve their relationship with cities with innovative projects. The aim of the 2022 edition has been to reward "initiatives and/or strategies to improve maritime passenger links and connectivity within the city or with other cities and bring added value to the local community". Today, we discussed the importance of sustainable tourism, the development of tourist infrastructure, and opportunities for enhancing tourist offer in #Kolasin. We emphasized the importance of staff education in the tourism sector and the use of EU funds to enhance tourism. Also, it was a great opportunity to present the Tourism for Future project we are implementing now. 🌲🌿

With many either already there or currently en route to Brussels for #ConnectingEurope, we would like to share one last highlight as part of the North Sea Commission countdown to the event. Today's highlight comes to us from Örebro kommun 🇸🇪 Many regions, as well as the national Swedish and Norwegian government, worked incredibly hard to include the Oslo-Stockholm connection in the ScanMed corridor during the TEN-T revisions. This connection bridges two capitals and has the potential to significantly decrease travel time, which would incentivise rail travel and offer a strong alternative to flying. While a preliminary agreement was reached on the inclusion of this connection, there are still gaps regarding urban nodes, terminals and ports.
