As VW moves forward with its transition to EVs, there is a question about whether the "GOLF" name will endure. Never WASTE unique brands, keep and utilize existing RESOURCES. Having just invested in my new VW GOLF8 GTE - and enjoying as for soon 50Y of GOLF'n around. As Ambassador of INDUSTRY 5.0 where we aim to PREVENT WASTE HAPPENING in any form or shape, I strongly support the prolonging of the name and the model - to appear in new design and technology. Few automobiles have had as long a lifespan as the Volkswagen Golf. It practically invented the “hot hatch” segment of the market when it first went into production in 1974 as the replacement for the original Beetle. Hooligans rejoice! KTM unleash new Super Duke 1390 R https://lnkd.in/d_YstDum KTM are marking 30 years of their naked Duke range in the only way they know how: by launching a brand-new 187.4bhp 1390 Super Duke R range powered by a monstrous 1350cc motor. Available from January in a standard and Evo guise (with semi active electronic suspension), the duo will take over from the 1301cc 1290 Super Duke selection, which first appeared 11 years ago as a prototype and then later as three generations of super naked. Although sporting a side profile similar to the old 1290, the new bikes get a revised LED headlight design similar to the recently revealed 990 Duke. There are also subtle winglets that droop below the shoulders of the larger 17.5-litre fuel tank, and a set of new Michelin Power GP-shod 17in rims which are 1.2kg lighter than before. Based on the existing LC8 V-twin unit found in the 1290, the new higher capacity engine has been created thanks to an increased bore of 110mm (up from 108mm). You’ll also find a new ‘cam shift’ system, otherwise known as variable valve timing, that allows for a claimed broader spread of power and torque across the rev range. Located in the cylinder heads, the cam shift set-up allows for the activation of two different valve lifts depending on where you are in the rev range. As a result, the 1390 now produces around 10bhp and 3.3lb.ft more than its predecessor, all whilst meeting Euro5+ rules.

BMW had a V-12 7 Series with a 6.0-liter unit running on hydrogen in 2005. Going even further back in time, the German luxury brand developed a 5 Series (E12) to run on liquid hydrogen in the late 1970s. Volkswagen will not develop a new generation Golf with a combustion engine after the current model reaches the end of its lifecycle. The current, eighth-generation Golf will get a comprehensive update next year. "That puts it in a great position until the end of the decade. Then we will have to see how the segment develops," VW brand boss Thomas Schaefer told Automotive News Europe sister publication Automobilwoche. "If the world develops completely differently than expected by 2026 or 2027, then we can also launch a completely new vehicle again. But I don't expect that to happen. So far, that's not planned," Schaefer said. The Golf has been in production since 1974 and its name will be retained for a battery-electric vehicle. "It's clear that we will not be giving up iconic names like Golf, Tiguan and GTI, but will be transferring them to the electric world," Schaefer said. "But with the Golf in particular, it has to fit the genes. Just calling any vehicle that doesn't work. We won't make that mistake," he added. There will not be an electric Golf until there are really Golf genes in it -- such as a flatter roof compared to the ID3 full-electric compact hatchback. That will not be until 2028 at the earliest, Schaefer said, when VW launches its new SSP electric platform.
