New European partnership for efficient hydrogen production. By Edward Laity H-TEC Systems and Bilfinger have agreed to jointly develop green hydrogen projects across Europe. Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two companies aim to identify green hydrogen project concepts and align technical and commercial interfaces between them. The non-exclusive strategic partnership will be based on the development of large-scale electrolysis projects, with a core element being the development of standardised plant concepts for optimised execution and maximum efficiency. The two parties will consider working together as preferred partners for suitable projects in the future, forming a mutual value creation through their complementary offering. https://lnkd.in/dzY9CK69

Green Hydrogen Systems and Bilfinger have established a strategic collaboration to advance #greenhydrogen projects. This collaboration combines Bilfinger’s expertise in engineering, maintenance, modifications, and operations services with Green Hydrogen Systems’ alkaline #electrolyser technology offerings.   The partnership between Bilfinger and GHS is non-exclusive and allows both parties to replicate similar collaboration agreements with other entities, supporting openness and innovation within the green hydrogen sector.   The key to this collaboration is the development of green hydrogen project concepts that range from 50 to 100 MW. This initiative will map the technical and commercial interfaces between Green Hydrogen Systems and Bilfinger, paving the way for the industrial-scale implementation of Power-to-X projects.

I'm quite skeptical of hydrogen for vehicle applications, mostly due to the poor well-to-wheel efficiency comparison and that a fuel cell just adds a layer of complexity on top of an electric car. There are few orders of magnitude more battery-powered vehicles on the road than hydrogen-powered, so I expect the experience curve of dropping costs as volumes increase will make battery electric competitive even in more challenging cases like long-haul trucks. This study points out an aspect I haven't looked into much before around the energy losses and the greenhouse impact of boil off losses from transporting hydrogen from a production to consumption locations.
