PISTIS is one of those jewels that are still to be polished, like an iceberg where you just see the upper part...The project brings together and builds upon concepts that already exist: #dataPlatforms, #dataSpaces, #dataTrading, #blockchain, #datavaluation...but it brings an innovative set of technologies and tools that can enable the set up of data sharing ecosystems in a realistic context. While focused on the #data technologies, it deploys the technology framework in three different industrial settings (#airindustry, #automotive and #energy), and demonstrates its value through a wide array of #usecases. So, while it is not a recognized "European Data Space" project, it is sure it will become one of the key enablers of those and will help to deliver on the #eu #DataStrategy, as our new blog says. Have you had a chance to read the article about "Data Standardization," co-written by Michal Gal and Daniel Rubinfeld? We found it to be quite interesting, and here's why. 👇 In the article, the authors examine the reasons behind data standardization and its limitations in light of data's unique characteristics. They also explore the role of governmental organizations in the #standardization process to ensure that the new standards have a positive impact. 🤔 The increasing adoption of #artificial #intelligence tools in all industries has made companies more dependent on data. 👩💻 While in-house data may be sufficient in some cases, multiple data sources might be required, which can be complicated by the lack of industry data standards. This can lead to higher integration costs, a decrease in product quality, or even prevent/complicate innovations. 👉 The reality is that data standardization is required in every domain, including the #energy sector, and it can help companies like N-SIDE continue to develop and improve existing and new products. How can Switzerland rise to the challenge of #BigData? Read the perspectives gained by the National Research Programme 75 "Big Data", which I had the privilege of summarizing. Below are a few of my personal take-aways. ⬇️ 1️⃣ Proactive #regulation is crucial, and should include both international developments and the local & sectorial specifics. Many actors need guidelines on the legal and ethical intricacies of using data while preserving privacy and complying with the law. 2️⃣ Creating big data #applications is no simple task. It requires: · creating partnerships with stakeholders · finding the data · assessing its quality, preparedness and completeness · storing it securely and preparing it for analysis · finding suitable existing algorithms, adapting them or creating new ones · benchmarking the results · creating practical visualisations and interfaces to explore the results · and - at last - integrating the new applications into established workflows. 3️⃣ Switzerland has to maintain and consolidate its research and innovation capacities in big data #infrastructure (hardware and software) if it wants to keep some control over the development of the field. The (suggested) to-do list is demanding, and shows the challenge ahead of us: ✔️ Foster an appropriate environment for big data development by: · enhancing the education of big data professionals · supporting legal and ethical advice for big data research and development projects · enabling certification of big data application properties. ✔️ Integrate big data in public and private organisations by · increasing the exploitation of big data technologies in the health sector · strengthening policymaking and evaluation with big data · promoting shared data collection, application benchmarks and open-source software. ✔️ Update and create adequate regulation by · pursuing more proactive regulation of big data · advancing data privacy and digital sovereignty in big data applications · increasing transnational harmonisation of regulations. Online: https://lnkd.in/eAipZNRi Pdf report: https://lnkd.in/eP6ZHAvS 🙏 Thanks to Christian S. Jensen from Ålborg Universitet, Boris Buzek and Stefan Husi from SNSF Swiss National Science Foundation, Beatrice Huber from SATW and Gabriel Alber from Alber Visuelle Kommunikation for the great collaboration, and the many enriching discussions. #BigData #Report #Switzerland #Data #Privacy #Regulation #Innovation #Ethics #Algorithms #MachineLearning

It’s not surprising that so many organizations are constantly racing to stay a step ahead of their data. In some instances, they’re running too fast to acquire the knowledge, tools, and time to prioritize so that data is actually useful to the business. We need to level-set on data, acknowledge the massive volume of data that exists, and focus on turning quality data into a strategic advantage. Big Data holds immense potential to drive sustainability initiatives, offering insights and opportunities for positive change. However, as we delve deeper into this realm, we must acknowledge the challenges and drawbacks accompanying its integration. Let's delve into the complexities: 1. Practicality Challenges Transforming vast amounts of unstructured data into actionable insights requires highly skilled professionals. However, there's a global shortage of talent equipped to navigate this landscape effectively. Moreover, traditional computing methods often fall short in managing the high volume, velocity, and variety of Big Data streams. Building a robust technical infrastructure is paramount for success but integrating data technology into existing business models remains a significant challenge. 2. Privacy Concerns While Big Data fosters transparency, questions arise regarding the ethical implications of widely accessible data. Privacy and security become critical concerns, with issues of intellectual property and liability coming to the forefront. Ensuring data security and ownership protection are imperative, requiring legal clarifications to capture the full value of Big Data while upholding ethical standards. 3. Future Implications Despite these challenges, Big Data holds immense promise for sustainability. It has the potential to address major environmental and social issues, from climate change to world hunger. By leveraging Big Data analytics, organizations can drive sustainable economic growth and gain a competitive edge. However, overcoming practical and privacy hurdles is essential to realizing this potential fully. In conclusion, while Big Data presents significant opportunities for sustainable development, it's essential to navigate the associated challenges effectively. As we envision the future of Big Data, collaboration among companies, industries, and governments is crucial in overcoming these hurdles and harnessing its transformative power for a more sustainable future. #BigData #Sustainability #DataAnalytics #ZONE3000🌍💡
