The person living with diabetes is above all a human being. Classic biomedical approach with the doctor acting as a mechanic (problem solving) is no longer enough, a biopsychosocial approach is needed.
I am pleased to present to you a very recent article which describes the shortcomings of medicine today and the real need to reform pre- and postgraduate medical education.

Selbstmanagementförderung, soutien à l'autogestion et éducation thérapeutique; this article, based on solid evidence on therapeutic patient education (TPE) exposes the different aspects. High-quality evidence has consistently shown that TPE significantly improves knowledge, glycemic levels, and clinical and psychological outcomes, reduces hospital admissions and all-cause mortality and is cost-effective.

🚀 Embracing Digital Health: Paving the Way for Better Healthcare in Canada! 🇨🇦💻
For the past decade, the importance of embracing digital health has been undeniable. It's heartening to witness the Medical Council of Canada taking significant strides in ensuring the competency of medical Residents in understanding the significance of Electronic Medical Records (EMR). The potential of EMRs to save lives and enhance the efficiency of healthcare professionals can significantly improve patients' quality of life and, in turn, alleviate the burden on our healthcare system.
Personally, I had the privilege of working with Choice EMR Learning Inc. as an academician. Led by Laura Keast and their remarkable team, they have been at the forefront of shaping curricula for numerous colleges and universities across Ontario. Witnessing their dedication and commitment to advancing digital health education has been truly inspiring.
Canada Health Infoway's progress in this domain is equally impressive, and I am eager to see how they continue to shape the future of healthcare in our country.
Furthermore, the Canadian Medical Association's ambitious proposal to grant 75% of Canadians access to their health records electronically within five years, with the goal of reaching 90% within a decade (compared to the current 27%), is a testament to the commitment to enhance patient care through digital means.
The potential impact of embracing digital health is immense - it can revolutionize healthcare delivery, improve patient outcomes, and streamline healthcare processes. As professionals in the healthcare industry, let's join hands in supporting and embracing these technological advancements. Together, we can build a healthier and more efficient healthcare system that benefits all Canadians.

I always enjoy having conversations with our Dean of the UAG International School of Medicine, Dr. Ahmad Kashif, about how our curriculum is evolving and learning about the ways we help our students become successful future physicians.
On Monday, I had the honor of hosting a webinar with Dr. Kashif to talk about the medical education at UAG and the measures being taken to ensure its quality. His insights are truly enlightening!

“The practice of medicine in its broadest sense includes the whole relationship of the physician with his patient. It is an art, based to an increasing extent on the medical sciences, but comprising much that still remains outside the realm of any science. The art of medicine and the science of medicine are not antagonistic but supplementary to each other…The significance of the inti- mate personal relationship between physician and patient cannot be too strongly emphasized, for in an extraordinarily large number of cases both diagnosis and treatment are directly dependent on it, and the failure of the young physician to establish this relationship accounts for much of his ineffectiveness in the care of patients.”
JAMA March 27, 1927
The Care of the Patient
Francis W. Peabody, M.D.
Such truth dropped nearly 100 years ago. The institutionalization of medicine is constantly, intentionally deteriorating the physician-patient relationship. It has intentionally devalued the physician and patient for power while knowing there is nothing more important than the relationship between the two.
It’s way past due to time to bring it back.
PS- this quick article is great
