Want a big job even with a traditional OEM? Increasingly, you need to have EV success on your resume. What do the following have in common: Martin Sander, new board member for sales, marketing and after sales at Volkswagen Frank-Steffen Dr. Walliser, new CEO at Bentley Motors Sherry House, CFO elect at Ford Motor Company Luca Napolitano, new chief sales and marketing officer at Stellantis Christine Feuell, new CEO at RAM Rory Harvey, new president, global markets at General Motors Dr. Manfred Harrer, new executive vice-president and head of Genesis & Performance Development Tech unit at Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차)? All are fast-rising executives at so-called legacy OEMs that have been hired or promoted at least in part because of their experience in successfully driving electrification initiatives. The leadership teams, and in time the boardrooms too, of automotive firms are changing. C-suites that knew only of ICE coming up will age out and their replacements will need to have the skills required for a future when most sales will be electrified, if not fully electric. So don't believe anything you read about OEMs turning their back on the e-mobility revolution. Their hiring trends tell you they know they're only just beginning. And, if you're ambitious in the automotive world, better get some e-mobility on the CV pronto! https://lnkd.in/eZ4PVS54 #ev #automotive

Quite amazing really, over my 20 years in EVs (yes 20 years) I have met many of the senior people over that time at the OEMs and if I go back even just 15 years just talking to them about the need to have EV development in their portfolio made them look at me as if I had two heads Now EV experience is critical at the top of the OEMs for them to survive I didn’t slink off feeling as if I was a lunatic and stuck to my guns, because it’s coming round and fast and I am so pleased I didn’t go with the mainstream at that time 👍🏼

OEMs know that the future is electric. Any who ignore this fact and fail to EVolve will be relegated to the dustbin of history.

EVs are EVs. They have different key components like Batteries, battery management systems, power on and off boarding, electric motors… and they don’t have engines or fuel injection systems… The value chains and supply chains are different. The customer journey and expectations are different. The fueling and driving experience - yep, also different. The qualities required to lead and win in the EV space may also be different!

Thanks for sharing this. The challenge legacy automakees have in my experience is not the lack of talent. It's more the lack of empowerment and adversity to change the status quo.

Looks like this realisation has arrived a decade too late for it to boost my own career prospects, but very glad that the majors are now accepting that #EV people are not (all) weird! 😎
