Unlike football, the mechanics and challenges of delivering complex programmes are largely opaque to people who don't have lived experience or form part of the team.... so success is judged on actual (not potential) results. When picking directors (or suppliers) for a major programme, the key is too look for those who manage relationships well and have knowledge, experience and a track record of consistent delivery. I'm quietly hopeful that when the new Procurement Act comes into law this year, the chance for more engagement, dialogue and negotiation will make it easier for customers to make this distinction. #euro2024 #gareth #partnership #PPA2023

Interesting to see tools like flipper and rubber ducky are now for sale on Amazon in the UK (and advertised as such in facebook feeds). I tend to think this is maybe a good thing, as those who'd use and abuse such tools would be able to source them anyway, but curious if the security specialists in my network agree?

This is genuinely a personal and true story.... I'm going grey and ever so slightly bald.... although I like to think being 6'3" means the latter doesn't get noticed so much. Three years ago I was in the barbers, looking down at all the grey hair on the shawl they stick around your shoulders. I said to the barber... "Why do you buy these shawl things in black?" He said... "Because I wanted ones which match with the decor of the shop". "You know, if these were grey, they'd hide my grey hair, make the black hair stand out and still fit with the monochrome look. At the moment all I see when I look down is grey" I replied. Time passed and I went back for another haircut, only to be wrapped in a grey shawl. I asked the barber if this was because of our conversation and he said yes, he was buying grey ones now and "customers in my situation"... was his polite way of saying it..... seemed to him to be more happy after their haircuts. The morals of this tale..... 1. Find a way to focus on the positives in life. 2. Something seemingly irrelevant to you can matter to other people. 3. If you think about customer needs beyond the immediate scope of your service, you'll have happier customers. All principles I try to apply in how we do business in Through Technology Limited. I hadn't until today, when I was prompted to do so because of a security hold put on my account after suspicious logon attempts, blocking not only my access to my account, but also everyone else's access to my profile and content. Eye-tracking technology has some very interesting uses for accessibility, improved user interfaces and also reading your subconscious without your knowledge. Yep, I'm not kidding, join me for a minute with my tin-foil hat on, then let me know what you think..... Eye-tracking includes measuring "scan path" (what you look at first in a given image) and "Linger duration" (how long you keep looking at a particular element in an image). Now that can have some great uses.... such as Apple's newly announced accessibility use for iPhone and iPad, where lingering on a particular icon can open it for users. However, at a more granular level, scan path and linger duration are largely subconscious functions of our brain and visual system. If shown a crowd, your eyes may linger on those people you are subconsciously attracted to... when shown a group of products, you may look first and longest at those you are interested in. So this technology has the potential to provide information about your subconscious preferences to the technology supplier without you consciously making a decision to share it. This is something of a watershed, because it bypasses the user's conscious thought and "filter", as well as any conscious decision whether or not information can be shared. I haven't seen Apple's privacy notice for this yet, but when I checked the latest privacy notice for Meta Quest VR headsets (which also have eye tracking), they already state very vaguely that Meta might use this information for the general purposes of improving the relevance of adverts. I actually think regulators should be taking an interest in this, in the same way they did for subliminal advertising in the past. Particularly where it is now entering standard consumer devices and bypasses the users ability to consciously control information sharing. This is one for our customers on Azure to look out for. Microsoft are discussing mandating MFA for all Azure users, but there is scant information so far on both the schedule and how the impact on Service Accounts or other user types (e.g. Students who aren't allowed phones in school) will be managed. Keep an eye out for this as it develops and ensure that your organisation considers how it manages these special cases. https://lnkd.in/edrbUZx7
