🤝Presenting our partners 🤝 At Smart Energy, we prioritize partnerships with local businesses (those in the countries where we carry out our projects) to maximize the economic benefits of our projects on local enterprises. Our goal is to carry out over 70% of the work with the assistance of local businesses. This goal was achieved in our projects with Barbuda and the company Roberts, which handled all civil engineering for the power plant, and with Trinidad and the companies Geotech Associates, KS&P for civil engineering studies, and Ragbir and Deonaire for construction work. We aim to significantly exceed this goal and reach 80% of work with local businesses in our projects with Trinidad and Dominica. 🔧🌟 What inspired you to become an engineer? Let's reflect on our journey! As engineers, we each have a unique story behind our choice of this incredible profession. For me, it all began with my family - a legacy of engineering that spans three generations. My late Grandad, the pioneer engineer in my family, was a mechanical engineer and director for the Nigerian Railway Corporation. My university journey took me to the vibrant town of Brighton, where my Grandad studied at the University of Sussex - the same town where I pursued my engineering degree at the University of Brighton. Those connections remind me of the importance of family, history, and knowledge passed down through generations. Growing up in Nigeria, my mom, a civil engineer in the Oil & Gas sector, was my superhero. I was always excited to visit her office, captivated by the intricate drawings and her ability to lead in a predominantly male-dominated industry. She made me believe that there was nothing I couldn't achieve. But there's more to my passion for engineering and infrastructure. Nigeria's challenging infrastructure situation was an everyday reality. Hours spent travelling on unsafe roads, flooded streets during the rainy season, and never-ending traffic jams. The lack of consistent electricity supply was another hurdle. These experiences inspired my dedication to infrastructure. As Albert Einstein once said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge." There are countless challenges out there that require us to think outside of the box and step out of our comfort zones. Engineering offers us the opportunity to do just that—to solve complex problems and make a tangible difference in the world. I genuinely believe that those in STEM fields are some of the most purpose-driven individuals out there. We thrive on challenges, dream of solving problems, and are motivated by a relentless curiosity. Life takes us on all sorts of journeys, and we might not always be knee-deep in our dream projects, but don't lose sight of what inspired you in the first place.
