One of my favorite questions to ask 💡 and to answer is "why product marketing?". ESPECIALLY in markets were PMM is just starting to enter the chat 📨 . From others, the top response: product positioning and messaging, followed by enablement. But product marketing is about SO much more than that. PMMs will be right there in the trenches with their PMs for discovery, success metric setting, and ripping apart the roadmap to reprioritize based on feedback ✂ . They'll be proactively asking to join meetings to get feedback 🗒 from CS and Sales, what's the market saying, and "would XYZ help you for your communication?". I joined the Product Marketing Alliance a couple of months ago to expand my knowledge, but they've also helped me talk (and educate! 🤔) about what product marketers DO that goes beyond "positioning and enablement". It's cool to watch people get excited at what else they get when hiring a PMM ✨ .

I want to tell a story. Here’s the short version: one of the teams I work with most closely is hiring for a marketer to take the lead on business banking. It’s a great team, with a top-notch manager, at a great company. If you’re in marketing, you should give it a look. The longer version is to tell you: Our marketing department has a great leader in Jodi Siemers, and big shoes to fill because Jordin Edwards is excelling in a new role in a different department here at First Bank & Trust. Jordin was one of our longest-tenured marketing team members, and she is an exemplar of our culture. She handled a wide range of tasks across our marketing department, and took responsibility for making sure things got done right. Crucial contributor. A couple of years ago, Jodi, our head of marketing, wanted to really ensure Jordin had an opportunity to make an impact on the organization by going deep, rather than covering a wide array of things. They worked together to focus Jordin our our business customers and to really drive her expertise in what businesses need from us and how we serve them best. Because of their efforts (particularly Jordin’s), it worked - as a department, we understand better how to serve businesses than ever before. And something else happened, as well. As Jordin got deeper into serving our retirement services business (we administer retirement plans for businesses we serve - if that’s something you need, reach out to Jordin!), she saw how important that work is. So when there was an opening to join that team and serve the businesses that are our retirement services customers directly, she was the clear internal candidate to step into the role. Not only did Jodi cheer her on as she did so, Jodi also pointed out to me that this is what is supposed to happen: we develop our people to be able to make the biggest possible impact, even if it’s not in our department. It’s a story that, to me, shows how lucky I am to have colleagues like Jordin and Jodi. And I hope it’s a story that, if you know marketing - particularly B2B marketing- makes you think that Jodi is a leader you should try to work for, at a company that will support your growth. Please let me know if you have any questions, and as always if this role isn’t for you, but makes you think of someone who is a good fit, please pass this post along!

Senior product manager posting fam! Posted 3 hours ago. See you in Skool for more postings and tips. https://lnkd.in/gtQjCfUH On the coaching call today we talked about structuring your day for a high number of product manager interviews. You should spend the first part of your day (if you are applying full time without a job) mass applying on the job boards. 12 pm to 3 pm is the best time to prepare for your LinkedIn messages because after 3 pm is when you are going to see the most postings come up and when hiring managers have the time to respond back to you. Heads and directors of product are very busy and their mornings are usually spent in meetings until all their bandwidth is tapped out around the afternoon time. This is when you will see the most postings come uo on LinkedIn AND when they can actually speak with you. Think about its. It’s impossible for you to craft a message strong enough to convert interviews from a stranger. There will be some back and forth and this when you have to book the call. I have had members book the interview live from the LinkedIn message on the spot. For more tips come to Skool. https://lnkd.in/gtQjCfUH PS Please reshare for your network. #productmanagement

Social Media & Content Strategy @Prequel | Ex-RBC | Ex-L'Oreal | EdTech & Marketing | Creator | McGill University
Prequel’s dreams are growing and so is our team! 🚀 Interested in EdTech and building out programs that help take potential to progress? Check out our CEO’s note below! Reach out for any questions! #hiring #edtech
CEO of Prequel | Helping kids do things their parents think are impossible. Join 250k+ parents on the Prequel newsletter
I'm hiring! This year, Prequel is launching six new programs for 9-13-year-olds that help them accomplish what their parents think is impossible: - Get 50 customers in a business in a month - Build a video game that gets published on a platform with 25M MAUs - Beat Harvard Business School's teamwork simulation, where 45% of MBAs fail - Program a self-driving car for a chance to win F1 tickets To name a few. We're hiring for several roles to help make this happen. We're looking for a senior marketer to run our enrollment funnel - land distribution partnerships, educate our 250k+ parents on our email lists, run events IRL and virtual, and think strategically about how to help us scale these programs to impact hundreds of thousands of kids. We are also hiring for a sales role - parents love talking to someone on our team before they sign up and as part of our interview process. Finally, across our teen and pre-teen programs this summer, we are hiring for part-time instructors as we scale to thousands of students. We are funded and have big dreams to build something completely new in education with high standards on what kids can achieve. Our team is fully remote and meets up several times a year worldwide! Reach out if you or someone you know can be a great fit.

After ranting about the hiring process for PMs, we are now hiring. What a coincidence ! 😁 Let me explain what we are looking for without mentioning Product (non-) Sense. We value the following traits in Product Managers: - Ability to decrypt and empathize with users needs - Understanding of data, statistics and optimizations - Familiarity with how tech products are built What do we mean: ❓ -- Ability to decrypt and empathise with users needs: ✅-> we want a PM who understands that people don't buy rolex watches because they want an accurate read of the time ✅-> someone who knows that it is 10 times more painful for a user to make 2 clicks instead of one for the same outcome ❓ -- Understanding of data, statistics and optimisations: ✅-> we want a PM who can write SELECT * FROM the_correct_table JOIN reference_table ON id=same_id WHERE field = what_we_need ✅-> someone who understands that there could be no difference between a test and control group with 10% difference in conversion on average ❓ -- Familiarity with how tech products are built ✅-> we want a PM who knows that adding a filter to a page is harder than changing the colour of a button but will often have lesser impact ✅-> someone who can cut the requirements down to the minimum amount of work to validate an hypothesis Here you have it, that's my take
