I have countless people to thank for the launch of my book, but above all, I am deeply grateful to my family. My dear wife, Gouya, If it weren’t for your encouragement, I’d have never written this book. Your partnership in life, your love, your kind and spiritual heart, your entrepreneurial mind, and your dedication to the betterment of the world has allowed me to expect more from life. I love you very much. My dearest daughters, Sophia and Ella, you give me the courage, the energy, and the enthusiasm to push forward. I learn so much from you, every day. Ella, thank you for reading passages from the book aloud during the tour and helping me share my story with others. It is this belief that allows people here to create and build and thrive in ways that they might not anywhere else, even when they’ve started with nothing. … the triumph of optimism swelled in my core. I let every bit of that feeling stitch the torn fabric of my heart and fill up the loss of leaving my country behind. I would have to wait two more years to become eligible to take the test and get sworn in as an American citizen. But on that day? The day I learned just how powerful optimism can be? That’s when I became an American. — The above is an excerpt from my book, Crossing the Desert. From a time when I knew I was ready to make my way forward in this country, purposefully. As we commemorate another Independence Day, I am reminded of the enduring ideals upon which this nation was founded. For me, this day holds a special resonance, not only as a celebration of freedom and independence but also as a reflection of the boundless potential that America represents. Throughout its history, America has stood as a beacon of hope and acceptance, offering sanctuary to the oppressed and disadvantaged from around the world. It is a privilege for any nation to have such an opportunity to shape the course of human history, and I believe that America’s spiritual destiny lies in leading the charge toward a more harmonious and just world. May this day be a joyful celebration of the resilience and spirit of the American people, and may we continue to strive toward a brighter future for all humanity.
