Here is an example of true leadership and strong principles: Hidetaka Miyazaki of FromSoftware is committed to preventing studio layoffs ‘whatever it takes.’ The sentiment by Satoru Iwata, former president of Nintendo, echoes this philosophy: ’People who are afraid of losing their jobs are afraid of making good things.’ This quote truly encapsulates the fearlessness needed in leadership within the gaming industry. What are your thoughts on how leadership can influence creativity and job security in gaming? #LeadershipInGaming #GameIndustry #JobSecurity #InnovationInGaming #TrueLeadership #FromSoftware #GamingCommunity #CreativeCulture #BusinessStrategy #EmployeeWellbeing https://lnkd.in/drAMuDdv

Creating perfect difficulty curve is a really challenging task. As it is crucial for engaging and retaining players by providing a satisfying challenge that grows with their skills. Here are some key strategies to consider when designing a difficulty curve: 1. Understand Your Audience: Know the skill level and expectations of your target audience. Different genres and player demographics will have different expectations and tolerance levels for difficulty. 2. Gradual Progression: Increase the difficulty gradually to allow players to learn and master the game mechanics. Sudden spikes in difficulty can frustrate players and may cause them to quit. 3. Balanced Challenges: Ensure that the challenges are well-balanced and fair. Players should feel that their failures are due to their own mistakes, which they can learn from, rather than the game being arbitrarily difficult. 4. Feedback and Adaptation: Provide clear feedback on performance and adapt the challenges based on the player’s actions. This could be through dynamic difficulty adjustment where the game alters its difficulty based on the player's success or failure. 5. Variety in Challenges: Mix different types of challenges to keep the gameplay interesting. This can include puzzles, combat, strategic planning, etc., depending on the game genre. 6. Player Skill Development: Design game mechanics and levels in a way that naturally helps players improve their skills. For instance, introduce a new skill or weapon in a safe environment before requiring the player to use it under pressure. 7. Pacing and Downtime: Incorporate periods of lower difficulty or downtime after intense challenges. This gives players time to relax and prepare for the next challenge, maintaining engagement without overwhelming them. 8. Reward Effort and Skill: Reward players appropriately for overcoming challenges, whether through in-game items, new abilities, story progression, or simply recognition. Rewards motivate players to face tougher challenges. 9. Use Data and Testing: Utilize playtesting and data analytics to observe how different types of players interact with your game. Adjust the difficulty based on this feedback to fine-tune the challenge curve. 10. Accessibility Options: Include difficulty settings and accessibility options to cater to a broader range of players. This allows players to customize their experience according to their own preferences and abilities. By focusing on these aspects, you can create a difficulty curve that helps make your game both challenging and enjoyable, encouraging players to keep coming back for more. #GameDesign #PlayerEngagement #GamingIndustry #GameDevelopment #DifficultyCurve #UserExperience #GameMechanics #InteractiveDesign #GamerCommunity #LevelDesign

When I watched the scene in the movie ‘Her’ (2013) where the main hero played a video game, I couldn’t believe that a game character with a personality could react to the player’s actions, communicate with him, and joke. Now, with the development of large language models, I see that this is the near future of gaming. This will allow game developers to build experience that were never possible before. I’m completely excited and inspired by this! #ArtificialIntelligence #GamingFuture #AIGaming #TechInnovation #VideoGames #GameDevelopment #AILanguageModels #InteractiveGaming #TechnologyTrends https://lnkd.in/dCK-YziW

For years in game development I see how some developers small and big are trying to repeat the success of popular games. I’ve tried to explore why it is difficult or sometimes impossible to repeat the success. I’ve found that the difficulty in replicating the success of massive hit games like Minecraft, Fortnite, and Roblox lies in several key factors that are hard to duplicate: 1. Innovative Gameplay: Each of these games introduced new or highly refined gameplay mechanics. Minecraft popularized sandbox-style creative gameplay, Fortnite brought in the battle royale mode with a unique building mechanic, and Roblox created a platform where players can create and play games made by others. Matching or surpassing this level of innovation is challenging. 2. Timing and Market Conditions: These games were released at opportune times when their unique offerings were particularly appealing to gamers. For example, Minecraft tapped into a desire for a more open-ended gaming experience, while Fortnite capitalized on the growing popularity of both battle royale games and streaming culture. Identifying and capitalizing on such market conditions is unpredictable. 3. Community and Ecosystem Development: All three games have fostered extensive communities and ecosystems. Minecraft has a robust modding community; Fortnite has events and collaborations with major brands and celebrities; Roblox offers an entire economy where developers can earn real money. Building such communities requires not just great game design, but also ongoing support and development to keep the community engaged. 4. Viral Growth and Cultural Impact: Each game achieved a level of viral popularity that is rare and difficult to plan. Their impact extends beyond gaming into cultural phenomena, influencing music, movies, and more. Such widespread appeal can be elusive and is often a blend of the right game at the right time with the right audience. 5. Scalability and Continuous Improvement: These games continuously evolve. Their developers regularly update them with new content, features, and improvements, helping sustain interest over many years. New developers often underestimate the resources and commitment required to maintain and grow a game post-launch. Because of these factors, while many developers can aim to create a successful game, replicating the unprecedented scale of success seen in games like Minecraft, Fortnite, and Roblox involves a mix of innovation, timing, community engagement, and often, a bit of luck. That’s why it is important to deeply understand how games work, how gaming evolve and changes with time. Each team is unique and should look for its own path instead of blindly following successful teams. #GameDevelopment #GameDesign #GamingIndustry #InnovationInGaming #IndieDev

I strongly believe that AI will inevitably completely change the gaming industry, bringing about innovations that we've only begun to imagine. AI's integration into game development is not just about enhancing graphics or creating more realistic NPCs, but it's about fundamentally transforming how games are designed, played, and experienced. AI algorithms can already generate vast, intricate game worlds on the fly, tailor experiences to individual player preferences, and even write compelling narratives that evolve based on player choices. Looking ahead, we can expect AI to enable truly personalized gaming experiences, adapting in real-time to player emotions and decisions, thereby making games more immersive and engaging. Moreover, AI opens the door to reducing development costs and time by automating routine tasks and testing, allowing creative teams to focus more on the art and storytelling aspects of game creation. This democratization of game development could lead to a surge in innovation and diversity in game types and styles, providing a platform for voices and stories that have been underrepresented in mainstream gaming. As we stand on the brink of these exciting developments, it's crucial for industry professionals to embrace and shape these changes, ensuring that AI enhances the gaming world in an ethical, enjoyable, and meaningful way. #AI #GamingIndustry #GameDevelopment #Innovation #TechnologyTrends

3wI think they have to make the people who write their paychecks realize this. Good intensions have no power if good leadership can get sacked along with everyone else then replaced. The industry is funded by people who really don't care: just make them money. We're just another revenue stream. Just what's cool at the moment... People with no fear get sacked all the time. Kojima san can do this because his name alone makes investors wet, people with money knock on his door, not the other way around. Someone else with the same intensions and heart can say the same thing and it falls on deaf ears. This would take a lot of change and "rise through the ranks..." or drop that one blockbuster game then "oh we hear you...". I would love for people like Miyazaki san and Iwata san with the same heart run teams. But this is only a dream because those people will get snuffed and overlooked.
