I woke up today a disappointed, yet grateful Lions fan. 🦁 But this post really isn't about analyzing the game, it's bigger than that. Waking up sad because of the end of a historic Lions' season, made me reflect on how each of us struggle with a range of challenges each day. They're mostly invisible, underneath the surface of our "ready for work" personas, but the challenges remain. We may not know what our colleagues, friends, the stranger on the train, the person who handed me my coffee, etc. are struggling with but trust there are always struggles. These challenges are much more significant than a football game outcome. Be kind. Have empathy. We're all in this together. Lighten someone's load today. P.S. A few football/life notes: 1. Sometimes you have to just make progress with a field goal (+3). It's not always about going for the touchdown, not getting it and giving momentum to the opponent and their fans. 2. Sports are powerful. They bring the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. 3. #linkedinsportschallenge Day 8: How are recent trends and developments around diversity in sports ownership reshaping the landscape of sports? Obviously there are some more diverse ownership groups in #sportsbiz now? But I do wonder if the premise of today's question highlights that as much as there are examples like Angel City Football Club's ownership group. To me, it isn't the ownership group, but the decision making power that is most important. Having the key decision be a woman, a black person, or another minority will help change the decision making dynamic. It might not make the decisions any different, but it might create space for different decision making criteria to be considered when things like #tickets, #marketing, and broadcasting decisions are made. Right now, we still need to see more diversity in the decision making processes. #strategy

This event, marked by a staggering 30-year age gap between the competitors, asks us to question the very fabric of competitive sports and entertainment. 1️⃣ The age gap: There is a profound question to be asked: Should we allow fights with a 30 year age difference? This isn't merely a question of physical capability but touches on the ethical considerations of sportsmanship and the duty of sports organizations to ensure fair, safe competition. What are the implications for the sport, and where should we draw the line? 2️⃣ Motivations behind the match: What drives such a contest? Is it the thrill of competition, the pursuit of pride, the shadows of ego, or the lure of financial gain? Each motivation speaks volumes about the current state of professional sports and entertainment, reflecting a society that is increasingly blurring the lines between genuine competition and spectacle. 3️⃣ The role of the audience. Perhaps the most introspective question of all: Is the event itself more concerning, or is it our collective decision to watch it that truly deserves scrutiny? This speaks to the broader role of consumer demand in shaping the landscape of sports and entertainment. Are we, as an audience, complicit in promoting contests that may prioritize spectacle over safety and integrity? I don't have clear answers for this but I feel as if this fight is a mirror reflecting our collective psyche – what we value, what entertains us, and what we are willing to overlook. Diversity in sports ownership is bringing new backgrounds and new ideas to sports. A big new ownership group are athletes and Hollywood stars. I think diversity between ownership will bring about more distinctive differences in a clubs personality and how it is run. Creating more of a personality and storyline behind each club.

A year ago today, as an intern at Wasserman Media Group, I found myself in a fireside chat with golf executives when the news of the LIV Golf and PGA Tour merger broke. The announcement sent shockwaves across social media, igniting a pandemonium of predictions that these two giants of the men’s professional game would remain at odds. Today, the divide remains evident, highlighted by the contrasting spectacles of the PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament in Ohio and LIV Golf’s Houston event. As an Entry-level DE&I Cultural Strategist, I’ve observed firsthand the challenges and missed opportunities in bridging such divides. The ongoing stalemate underscores the complexities of merging not just organizations but cultures and visions. Personal Take 👩🏾💻 ⛳ : To create a more inclusive framework for the merger, my approach would focus on integrating the core values and strengths of both organizations. This means fostering a culture of open dialogue and mutual respect, where diverse perspectives are not just heard but actively integrated into decision-making processes. By leveraging DE&I principles, we can build a unified vision that honors the rich histories of both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf while paving the way for a new era of innovation and inclusivity in the sport. In this new era, we would create joint events that celebrate diversity, implement shared governance structures, and develop community engagement initiatives that reflect our commitment to inclusion.
