Hello connections.. Here's my new article ... Design thinking is a problem-solving methodology used by designers to develop user-centric products and services. The five stages of design thinking are: Empathize: This stage involves understanding the users' needs, motivations, and challenges by engaging with them directly. This might involve conducting interviews, observations, or using other research methods to gain insights. Define: In this stage, you synthesize the information gathered in the empathize stage to identify key problems and define a clear problem statement. This stage is critical for focusing efforts on the right problems to solve. Ideate: In this stage, the goal is to generate as many creative solutions to the defined problem as possible. This is often done through brainstorming sessions or other ideation techniques. Prototype: In this stage, you create simple, inexpensive prototypes of the most promising solutions generated in the ideate stage. These prototypes are used to gather feedback and iterate on the design. Test: In this stage, you test the prototypes with real users to gather feedback and refine the design. Well, what's up!) The first day of the "Product Design Conference 2023" is behind us. I want to express my immense gratitude to the organizers! It was incredibly cool! I deliberately didn't want to announce from the stage that it was my debut as a speaker. Only close people and some of the organizers knew about it. Overall, it was a big challenge for me, as during the preparation of the presentation, there were constantly moments that distracted me: The topic of the presentation changed. I went on vacation. New major clients came on board for consulting. There was a lot of work with existing clients. But a day before the start, I finished the presentation, and in the evening before the conference, I sat and presented it to a vase of flowers, which turned out to be good listeners, by the way). Of course, there was anxiety before taking the stage. I was worried about how the presentation would be received by the audience. But the audience warmly responded to the first joke. I realized that there was a connection, and everything would work out. Thank you very much again to everyone who came to listen yesterday. I was delighted to meet many old friends and acquaintances. Your feedback after the performance was unexpected and pleasant. It motivates me to continue moving in this direction! P.S. Do you SCAMPER? If you've ever cringed when someone says "let's brainstorm this", SCAMPER can provide a structure and a useful set of questions to ask. As a creative problem-solving technique it's been around for a while; it's often associated with Bob Eberle (who applied it to learning). ✨ It's also a brainstorming method that can be used in product, service, and solution development, as well as process improvement. It applies the idea that new things are often a modification of existing things, if you just think about them differently. There’s no one sequence to follow; it’s a tool that encourages you to ask questions that you might not normally pose. Such as, what can you? 🔸 Substitute (e.g., components, attributes, people) 🔸 Combine (e.g., mix, combine with other services, integrate) 🔸 Adapt (e.g., alter, change function, use part of another element) 🔸 Magnify/Modify (e.g., increase or reduce in scale, change shape) 🔸 Put to other uses (e.g., recycle or reform) 🔸 Eliminate (e.g., remove elements, simplify, reduce to core functionality) 🔸 Rearrange/Reverse (e.g., turn inside out or upside down). I've seen these questions be useful when involving people in CX, UX and EX design, for example. 🧪 It can turn an old idea or process into something new and different. What is it about the word intuition that sparks distrust when mentioned in design discussions? Are we concerned that it contains too much subjectivity? Or too little dependability? Intuition is power, and with power comes the responsibility to use it wisely. Here's how I think we can do this in my latest article. #uxdesign #productdesign #designprocess

In his book “Serious Play,” Michael Schrage puts prototyping at the center of the product management and product design process, arguing that prototypes create a “shared space” that reshapes the way people think and work: “Prototypes… can be more articulate than people. Creating a dialogue between people and prototypes is more important than creating a dialogue between people alone.” Through the prototyping process, the team metaphorically travels forward in time by simulating aspects of the future, and then returning to the present equipped with the benefit of this knowledge. The learning track enables discovery upstream to feed forward into solutions for delivery, outcomes, and impact. Like an acting troupe’s dress rehearsal, interacting with the prototype, and watching users interact with it, gives the team a strong taste of experience while there’s time to improve the performance before the opening night. In his excellent 2009 book, “Prototyping: A Practioner’s Guide,” from Rosenfeld Media, Todd Zaki Warfel, identifies 5 different prototype type purposes and audiences (paraphrased by me here): > For shared communication > For product + design iteration > For internal stakeholder persuasion > For usability testing > For technical feasibility assessment And he recommends a “proto-communication” method created by Robert Hoekmam, Jr. called “protocasting”—combining a prototype and a screen-shared broadcast in one. In a video capture, a prototype creator/owner present a prototype with their live play-by-play commentary to further articulate and dramatiz multiple aspects, especially the user and customer journey. Finally, Warfel recommends prototyping “early and often” as a risk reduction strategy. We know a picture is worth a 1000 words but from the rate of comprehension for prototypes is much higher.
